MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: Estudio observacional, transversal y retrospectivo efectuado en un centro de la ciudad de Murcia, España, de enero 2022 a agosto 2024. Se incluyeron pacientes entre 38 y 75 años con uno o más síntomas del síndrome genitourinario de la menopausia que recibieron 3 a 4 sesiones de láser de dióxido de carbono fraccionado. Todas las pacientes fueron evaluadas antes y después del tratamiento con el índice de salud vaginal.  RESULTADOS: Se estudiaron 300 pacientes. Los síntomas más prevalentes fueron: pérdidas urinarias de esfuerzo (58.7%), pérdida del tono muscular vaginal (45.3%) y sequedad vaginal (43.4%). Se observó un aumento en el índice de salud vaginal en el 95% de las pacientes (n = 285), mientras que 15 pacientes permanecieron con el mismo puntaje (5%). Los puntajes registrados fueron de 14.7 ± 4.8 puntos previo al tratamiento, y 17.7 ± 4.8 puntos posterior al mismo (p &lt; 0.0001). El láser fraccionado de dióxido de carbono fue efectivo para reducir la sequedad, el ardor, el prurito vaginal, la dispareunia y aumentar el tono muscular vaginal (p &lt; 0.0001).  CONCLUSIONES: Si bien la bibliografía sigue reportando resultados controversiales, en la actualidad el láser de dióxido de carbono vaginal se considera un tratamiento coadyuvante sencillo, rápido y seguro para tratar pacientes con síndrome genitourinario de la menopausia. Se reconoce como un método útil para ofrecerlo a pacientes en la pre y posmenopausia que no pueden o no desean recibir tratamientos hormonales.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  OBJETIVE: Report results obtained in a private gynecological clinic for patients treated with vaginal carbon dioxide laser for various indications.  MATERIAL AND METHODS: Observational, cross-sectional, retrospective study was conducted at a center in Murcia, Spain, from January 2022 to August 2024. Patients between 38 and 75 years of age with one or more symptoms of genitourinary syndrome of menopause who received 3 to 4 sessions of fractional carbon dioxide laser were included in the study. All patients were evaluated before and after treatment using the vaginal health index.  RESULTS:  A total of 300 patients were included in the study. The most prevalent symptoms were stress urinary incontinence (58.7%), loss of vaginal muscle tone (45.3%), and vaginal dryness (43.4%). An increase in the vaginal health index was observed in 95% of patients (n = 285), while 15 patients remained with the same score (5%). The mean scores recorded were 14.7 ± 4.8 points prior to treatment and 17.7 ± 4.8 points after treatment (p &lt; 0.0001). The fractional carbon dioxide laser has been shown to effectively address symptoms such as dryness, burning, vaginal itching, and dyspareunia, while also enhancing vaginal muscle tone (p &lt; 0.0001).  CONCLUSIONS:  Despite the ongoing debate in the literature, the vaginal carbon dioxide laser is currently regarded as a straightforward, efficient, and safe treatment option for patients suffering from genitourinary syndrome of menopause. It is recognized as a useful method to offer to pre- and postmenopausal patients who cannot or do not wish to receive hormonal treatments.]]></p></abstract>
