La cuenca baja del río Papaloapan es muy importante por sus extensos humedales y la biota que presenta. Sin embargo esta zona ha sido impactada por diversas actividades económicas (ingenios azucareros y petroleras) principalmente.  Objetivos.  El propósito de este estudio fue analizar la diversidad de crustáceos en la cuenca baja del río Papaloapan.  Métodos. Se realizó un muestreo en las épocas de secas y lluvias en el año 2013, a través de muestreos diurnos con diversas artes de colecta, además se registraron variables fisicoquímicas del agua en diversos tributarios de la cuenca.  Resultados. La localidad que presentó los mayores valores de salinidad y sólidos disueltos totales en secas fue río Blanco (2.9 ups y 2704 mg/l), la menor concentración de oxígeno se registró en río San Agustín en secas y río Blanco en lluvias (1.09 y 2.09 mg/l) respectivamente. En total se recolectaron 4,587 organismos correspondientes a diez familias, doce géneros y dieciséis especies. Potimirim mexicana y Hyalella azteca, dominaron en términos de densidad con 34% y 26% en secas y Macrobrachium sp. y P. mexicana con 59% y 30%, dominaron en lluvias respectivamente. La mayor diversidad espacial se presentó en la época de secas en río Blanco (H&#8217;=1.99) y mínima en Playa Vicente (H&#8217;=0.37), en lluvias la mayor diversidad se presentó en Sontecomapan (H&#8217;=1.08) y la mínima en la localidad río Blanco con (H&#8217;=0.29).  Conclusiones.  Los macroinvertebrados entre ellos los crustáceos, son elementos biológicos primordiales para los sistemas acuáticos al desempeñar un papel importante en el reciclaje de materia orgánica y transferencia de energía a diversos niveles tróficos. Debido a esto es importante tener conocimiento de su dinámica y estructura poblacional que, junto con las variables ambientales que modifican su distribución y abundancia, nos permitirán distinguir sobre cambios por afectaciones humanas en el ambiente acuático y circundante y aquellos cambios producidos naturalmente.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Background.  Papaloapan river´s lower basin is very important for its extensive wetlands and biota presented. However this area is very impacted by several economic activities (sugar mill and oil extraction) mainly.  Goals. The aim of the study was to determine the diversity of crustaceans in the lower basin of Papaloapan river.  Methods.  The collection of organisms is carried out in the dry and rainy seasons in 2013, diurnal sampling with diverse collectors was apply and registering physiochemical variables of the water in different tributaries of the basin.  Results.  Río Blanco had the highest salinity and total dissolved solids (2.9 ups and 2704 mg / l) respectively. The lower oxygen concentration was recorded in San Agustín and Blanco rivers (1.009 y 2.09 mg / l) respectively. A total of 4,587 organisms were collected corresponding to ten families, twelve genera and sixteen species. Potimirim mexicana and Hyalella azteca dominated in terms of density with 34% and 26% in dry season, in the rainy season Macrobrachium sp., and P.mexicana dominated in density with 59% y 30% respectively. The greatest spatial diversity in dry season was in Blanco river with (H&#8217;=0.29) and minimum in Playa Vicente (H&#8217;=0.37), in rainy season highest diversity was in Sontecomapan (H&#8217;=1.08), while Blanco river showed the minimum diversity (H&#8217;=0.29).
