Considerando la experiencia reciente de algunas universidades públicas estatales en México, se discute la idea de que los cambios en las narrativas y prácticas de la autonomía y el gobierno de las universidades son la expresión institucionalizada de una gobernanza interpretativa centrada en la métrica de la calidad y la eficiencia institucional. El argumento central que se explora es que tras un ciclo largo de políticas gubernamentales dirigidas a modificar los comportamientos institucionales universitarios, la idea de la autonomía universitaria ha transformado sustancialmente su significado, límites y alcances en México.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract This essay is an analysis about the relationships between autonomy and university government from &#8220;interpretative governance&#8221; perspective and the characteristics of policy regime of higher education system in Mexico. Considering recent experience some Mexican&#8217;s public states universities, it is discussed the general idea that changes are the institutional expression of an interpretative governance on the metrics of institutional quality and efficiency. The central argument is that after a long cycle of government policies aims at modifying university institutional behaviors, the idea of university autonomy has substantially transformed its meanings, limits and scope in Mexico.]]></p></abstract>
