Esta investigación se enfocó en identificar los obstáculos que estudiantes de primer semestre de diseño gráfico enfrentan al construir gráficos estadísticos. Mediante un enfoque de investigación-acción, se implementó una intervención educativa utilizando presentaciones digitales sobre las características de los diferentes tipos de gráficos estadísticos. Se observó en los estudiantes un aumento significativo en el conocimiento conceptual de los gráficos estadísticos, pero la aplicación práctica no mostró un incremento similar, pues los estudiantes enfrentaron dificultades al seleccionar y construir gráficos estadísticos sin la asistencia de la docente. Aunque se observaron mejoras en el aprendizaje, el desarrollo de estas capacidades de comunicación gráfica necesita de tiempo y trabajo con características particulares. Se requiere de más intervenciones focalizadas empleando guías y materiales didácticos para lograr avances significativos en el aprendizaje.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract In the current context of information overload experienced by society, the construction of statistical graphics is a relevant task for the graphic design profession. This research aimed to identify the obstacles that first-semester graphic design students face when constructing statistical graphics. Using an action-research approach, an educational intervention was implemented using digital presentations about the characteristics of different types of statistical graphics. A significant increase in the conceptual knowledge of statistical graphics was observed in students; however, the practical application did not show the same results, in that the students faced difficulties when selecting and constructing statistical graphics without the assistance of the teacher. Although improvements in learning were observed, the development of these graphic communication skills requires time and work with specific characteristics. More focused interventions are required using guides and teaching materials to achieve significant progress in learning.]]></p></abstract>
