Innovar y generar tecnología para producir la cantidad y la calidad de alimentos suficientes para alimentar a una población mundial en rápido crecimiento de los tiempos modernos, siempre será el mayor desafío. El uso excesivo e indiscriminado de agroquímicos sintéticos para incrementar el rendimiento de los cultivos agrícolas conduce al deterioro de la salud del suelo, a la degradación de agroecosistemas, causa problemas relacionados con la contaminación del ambiente y genera resistencia a los pesticidas por insectos y microorganismos fitopatógenos. En este contexto, la NT ha surgido como un avance tecnológico que puede transformar sectores de la agricultura, proporcionando herramientas para la detección rápida de enfermedades en los cultivos, así como mejorar la capacidad de las plantas para absorber los nutrientes y crecer con mayor velocidad. Con la NT se abre un amplio abanico de oportunidades en la agricultura para producir agroproductos como nanofertilizantes, nanopesticidas, nanoherbicidas y nanosensores, que permitirán incrementar el rendimiento de alimentos de manera sustentable y reduciendo el impacto ambiental. Se espera que esta revisión crítica pueda proporcionar la información básica sobre los antecedentes en la investigación agronano tecnológica, que permita avanzar con la experimentación en las aplicaciones de las nanopartículas en la agricultura ecológica.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Application of nanotechnology in the agri-food sector is one of the fastest growing fields in nano-research. Innovating and generating technology to produce the quantity and quality of food, sufficient to feed a rapidly growing world population, will always be the biggest challenge in modern times. The excessive and indiscriminate use of synthetic agrochemicals to increase the yield of agricultural crops leads to the deterioration of soil health, to the degradation of agroecosystems, triggering problems related to environmental pollution and creating resistance to pesticides by many insects and microorganisms. In this context, nanotechnology has emerged as a scientific advance that can transform agricultural sectors, providing tools for the rapid detection of pests and diseases in crops, as well as improving the ability of plants to absorb nutrients, to grow faster and to generate better yields. Nanotechnology opens a wide range of opportunities in agriculture to produce agroproducts such as nano-fertilizers, nano-pesticides, nano-herbicides, and nano-sensors which will allow to increase the yield of food in a sustainable way by reducing the environmental impact. It is expected that this critical review provides the background information on agro-nano technological research, which will allow us to advance with the experimentation on the applications of nanoparticles in ecological farming.]]></p></abstract>
