La contaminación de este medio por hidrocarburos de petróleo afecta sus cualidades y la producción agrícola. En este trabajo se tomaron muestras de un suelo agrícola que ha estado sometido al derrame constante de hidrocarburos durante más de 40 años. Se determinó la concentración de hidrocarburos totales de petróleo en puntos a distintas distancias del origen del derrame. Las propiedades físicas y químicas del suelo analizadas fueron textura, capacidad de campo, densidad real, densidad aparente, salinidad, pH, capacidad de intercambio catiónico, porosidad, conductividad eléctrica, materia orgánica y nitrógeno. Con las mismas muestras de suelo se realizaron ensayos ex situ e in situ de germinación y crecimiento de cultivos de Arachis hypogaea (cacahuate), Zea mays (maíz) y Cucurbita argyrosperma (pipián). Se encontraron correlaciones entre la concentración de hidrocarburos (127120 a 151474 mg/kg de hidrocarburos totales de petróleo) y cinco de los parámetros medidos (materia orgánica, porosidad, densidad real, capacidad de campo y contenido de arcilla). También se encontró un efecto negativo en la germinación y crecimiento a 30 días de cultivo, de forma más pronunciada en los cultivos de cacahuate y maíz. Se propone que el cultivo de pipián presenta resistencia a la toxicidad de los hidrocarburos en concentraciones de hasta 127 120 mg/kg de hidrocarburos totales de petróleo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Soil is a complex ecosystem with specific characteristics and properties that support agriculture. The pollution of this environment by petroleum hydrocarbons affects its qualities and agricultural production. This work took samples from an agricultural soil that has been subjected to constant hydrocarbon spillage for over 40 years. The concentration of total petroleum hydrocarbons at points at different distances from the source of the spill was determined. The physical and chemical properties of soil were texture, field capacity, real density, bulk density, salinity, pH, cation exchange capacity, porosity, electrical conductivity, organic matter, and nitrogen. With the same soil samples, ex-situ and in situ tests were carried out on the germination and growth of crops of Arachis hypogaea (peanut), Zea mays (corn), and Cucurbita argyrosperma (pipian). Correlations were found between the concentration of hydrocarbons (127120 to 151474 mg/kg of total petroleum hydrocarbons) and five of the parameters measured (organic matter, porosity, real density, field capacity, and clay content). A negative effect on germination and growth was also observed at 30 days of cultivation, more pronounced in peanut and maize crops. It is proposed that the pipian crop exhibits resistance to hydrocarbon toxicity at concentrations up to 127 120 mg/kg of total petroleum hydrocarbons.]]></p></abstract>
