Este estudio evaluó la calidad del agua con fines agrícolas y para consumo humano en la parte baja del río Huixtla en Chiapas, México. Se determinó: temperatura (T), pH, sólidos totales disueltos (STD), conductividad eléctrica (CE), turbidez (Turb.), oxígeno disuelto (OD) y los iones carbonatos (CO3 2), bicarbonatos (HCO3 -), calcio (Ca2+), magnesio (Mg2+), sodio (Na+) y la dureza total (CaCO3). Se calculó la relación de absorción de sodio (RAS), el carbonato de sodio residual (CSR) y los coliformes totales y fecales. Los indicadores para la calidad del agua de uso agrícola fueron: CE, pH, RAS, el CSR y los coliformes acorde a los lineamientos de la Ley Federal de Derechos y Disposiciones Aplicables en Materia de Aguas Nacionales. Para el consumo humano la calidad del agua fue evaluada según la NOM-127-SSA1-2021. Los valores de coliformes y la turbidez del agua indicaron que ésta no presenta buena calidad para el consumo humano. Para el uso agrícola la calidad del agua es aceptable según el pH, el CSR y el RAS; sin embargo, la presencia de coliformes fecales la clasifica como de mala calidad. Según la CE el agua puede usarse para el riego agrícola siempre que se realice un tratamiento de lavado de los suelos. Se concluye que existe contaminación por coliformes fecales y totales los que imposibilitan que el agua pueda usarse para el consumo humano y el riego agrícola sin antes realizar acciones en la cuenca que permitan el mejoramiento de su calidad.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Rivers are an important economic and social resource, presenting serious contamination problems. This study evaluated water quality for agricultural purposes and for human consumption in the lower part of the Huixtla River, Chiapas, Mexico. The following were determined: temperature (T), pH, total dissolved solids (TDS), electrical conductivity (EC), turbidity (Turb.), dissolved oxygen (DO), and the ions carbonate (CO3 2), bicarbonate (HCO3 -), calcium (Ca2+), magnesium (Mg2+), sodium (Na+) and total hardness (CaCO3). Sodium absorption ratio (SAR), residual sodium carbonate (CSR), and total and fecal coliforms were calculated. The indicators for agricultural water quality were EC, pH, RAS, CSR, and coliforms according to the guidelines of the Federal Law of Rights and Applicable Provisions on National Waters. For human consumption, water quality was evaluated according to NOM-127-SSA1-2021. The coliform and turbidity values indicated that the water is not of good quality for human consumption. For agricultural use, the water quality is acceptable according to pH, CSR, and RAS; however, the presence of fecal coliforms classifies it as poor quality. According to the EC, the water can be used for agricultural irrigation as long as soil washing is performed. It is concluded that there is contamination by fecal and total coliforms, which makes it impossible for water to be used for human consumption and agricultural irrigation without first taking action in the basin to improve its quality.]]></p></abstract>
