En esta investigación se realizó un análisis termodinámico y cinético de la remoción del colorante cristal violeta usando diatomita como material adsorbente natural alternativo, procedente de la zona de Chivatá (Boyacá-Colombia), utilizando la técnica de adsorción por lotes. Para el estudio termodinámico se evaluaron varias concentraciones iniciales de cristal violeta (entre 300 y 1000 mg/L) a diferentes valores de pH (entre 5 y 8 unidades) y temperaturas (30, 35 y 40 ºC); algunas de estas condiciones mostraron el inicio del equilibrio de adsorción-desadsorción y fueron seleccionadas para el estudio cinético. El ajuste de los resultados a la ecuación linealizada de van&#8217;t Hoff permitió calcular la entalpía, entropía y energía de Gibbs, mostrando que se trata de un proceso endotérmico espontáneo en el rango de temperaturas estudiadas; además, del ajuste a los diferentes modelos cinéticos, se estableció que la etapa controlante obedece a interacciones del colorante cristal violeta con dos sitios desocupados de la diatomita como sugiere el modelo de pseudo segundo orden, con tiempo de remoción cercano a los 20 min. En conclusión, del análisis termodinámico y cinético se puede considerar a la diatomita como un material con potencial adsorbente en la remoción por lotes del colorante cristal violeta.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT The environmental problems associated with the textile industry are generally related to pollution from the discharge of untreated colored wastewater, affecting ecosystem life and human health. In this investigation, a thermodynamic and kinetic analysis of the removal of the crystal violet dye was carried out using diatomite as an alternative natural adsorbent material from the Chivatá area (Boyacá-Colombia), using the batch adsorption technique. For the thermodynamic study, various initial concentrations of crystal violet (between 300 and 1000 mg/L) were evaluated at different pH values (between 5 and 8 units) and temperatures (30, 35, and 40 ºC); some of these conditions showed the beginning of adsorption-desorption equilibrium and were selected for the kinetic study. The adjustment of the results to the linearized van&#8217;t Hoff equation allowed us to calculate the Gibbs enthalpy, entropy, and energy, showing that it is a spontaneous endothermic process in the range of temperatures studied; in addition, from the adjustment to the different kinetic models, it was established that the controlling stage obeys to interactions of the crystal violet dye with two unoccupied sites of the diatomite, as suggested by the pseudo-second-order model, with removal times close to 20 min. In conclusion, from the thermodynamic and kinetic analysis, diatomite can be considered a material with adsorbent potential in the batch removal of the crystal violet dye.]]></p></abstract>
