A central composite star type design was used to study the effect of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and iron (Fe), being the removal percentage of COD the response variable. Hydrogen peroxide concentration was the significant variable on COD removal. The optimum condition to remove 97 % of COD was 9 g/L of Fe (II) and 220.7 g/L of H2O2. The obtained compounds of the degradation for the optimum condition were formic acid and oxalic acid.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen: Se investigó la degradación de desechos tóxicos (fenoles 2500 ppm y demanda química de oxígeno, DQO 67 000 mg O2/L), con el proceso foto-Fenton solar. Se empleó un diseño central compuesto tipo estrella para estudiar el efecto del peróxido de hidrógeno (H2O2) y del fierro (Fe), siendo el porcentaje de remoción de DQO la variable de respuesta. La concentración del H2O2 fue la variable significativa sobre la remoción de DQO. La condición óptima para remover 97 % de la DQO fue de 9 g/L de Fe (II) y de 220.7 g/L de H2O2. Los compuestos obtenidos de la degradación para la condición óptima fueron el ácido fórmico y el oxálico.]]></p></abstract>
