Las muestras se recolectaron in situ a través de un fotómetro Modelo 400A durante el periodo de enero a diciembre de 2009, por 24 h continuas (n = 338). El ciclo fotoquímico del ozono exhibió un comportamiento característico de zonas urbanas, con valores mínimos a tempranas horas de la mañana. A partir de las 8 am se observó un incremento con valores máximos alrededor del mediodía. Por la tarde se redujeron las concentraciones de ozono, valores muy bajos se registraron durante la noche. Los valores máximos de ozono se reportaron en la época seca, mientras que los valores más bajos fueron en la época lluviosa. El análisis estadístico reveló que existen diferencias significativas (p &lt; 0.01) entre las concentraciones promedio encontradas durante los dos periodos. Las concentraciones máximas horarias de ozono no excedieron el estándar nacional de calidad de aire (240 mg/m3/h) en los días evaluados, pero el valor máximo por hora fue de 227 mg/m3 (aproximadamente 95 % del estándar).]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: This study evaluated the ozone levels on a site in the Northwest area of the city of Maracaibo, Venezuela. Samples were collected in situ using a photometer Model 400A from January to December 2009, for 24 continuous hours (n = 338). The photochemical ozone cycle exhibited a behavior characteristic of urban areas, with minimum values in the early hours of the morning. From 8 am there was an increase of ozone concentration, obtaining maximum values around noon. In the afternoon there was a decrease of those concentrations, with very low values during the night. The maximum ozone records were reported in the dry and rainy season where concentrations were lower. Statistical analysis showed that there were significant differences (p &lt; 0.01) between average concentrations found during both periods. Hourly maximum ozone concentrations did not exceed the national air quality standard (240 &#956;g/m3/h) on any of the days evaluated, but the maximum value per hour was 227 &#956;g/m3 (approximately 95 % of the standard).]]></p></abstract>
