Se comparó un área urbana de crecimiento poblacional rápido, con fuentes fijas y móviles de contaminación, versus dos áreas testigo sin fuentes de contaminación. Se utilizó el método del Índice de Pureza Atmosférica (IPA), como variable de análisis para determinar la existencia de contaminación aérea. El método supone la disminución en la frecuencia de especies a medida que aumenta la contaminación del aire. Se determinaron parámetros ecológicos: diversidad, riqueza y equitatividad. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que las tres áreas evaluadas no presentan diferencias estadísticamente significativas en los valores de IPA ni en los valores de diversidad. Los resultados indican homogeneidad en los ambientes estudiados, a pesar de las diferencias que tienen en cuanto al uso del suelo (área urbana vs. áreas naturales).]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT The lichen comunity was evaluated in Juana Koslay City, San Luis (Argentina), as environmental pollution bio-indicators. The urban area was compared against two control areas with no pollution sources. In the urban area there is a growing human population and fixed and movile sources of pollutants. The Index of Atmospheric Purity (IAP) was calculated to determinate the presence of air pollution. The assumption of the method is that the frequency of species will be reduced when the pollutants increase. Ecological parameters like diversity, richness and equitativity were determined. According to the results, the areas evaluated do not present differences in the values of IAP neither in lichen diversity. The results would indicate homogeneity in the air in the study areas, even though the areas chosen have remarkable differences in ground use (urban area vs. natural areas).]]></p></abstract>
