</abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en">
ABSTRACT Four generations of an experimental population of Drosophila melanogaster chronically exposed to radon were analyzed, the individual radon concentrations were sampled with the following results were as follow 30±7 (F1),.43 ±5 (F3), 6±2 (F6) and 74±7 (F9) kBq/m3 and with estimated doses of 1.209, 2.088, 0.03, and 2.878 mGy respectively, parallel control populations were also analyzed. The aims of the study were determine the effects of such irradiation on the induction of detrimental genes, measuring the effect on the viability with respect to fertility and the differential viability of minor genes. Neither the induction of detrimental genes non the distribution of the viability with respect to fecundity showed any inducting effect due to the exposure to radon. Nevertheless, significant changes due to the radon exposure on the fecundity of the populations were induced in three out of four comparisons concerning the production of offspring improving the fitness of the population as it was shown by other authors.
</abstract>
