Owing to the mild conditions and safety of its manufacturing, bioplastics represent an interesting opportunity to implement a hands-on approach for students to develop at home in an extended laboratory scheme. This work developed an experimental approach as a home-based project to address an environmental problem in developing avocado seed-based bioplastics reinforced with essential oils and showing antifungal properties and improved water barrier properties. All the experiments and characterizations could be adapted to a house setting. This contribution shows that it is possible to complete an experimental practicum project totally based at home and with significant good results. This approach to conducting projects remotely could be adopted in universities facing constraints such as limited laboratory facilities or equipment availability. It can also be applied to remote education initiatives and to overcome educational barriers for individuals facing gender-based inequalities.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Para algunas carreras, los proyectos terminales son esenciales en el plan de estudios. Debido a las condiciones experimentales y la seguridad de su fabricación, los bioplásticos representan una oportunidad interesante para implementar como un enfoque práctico en el que los estudiantes puedan trabajar desde casa como parte de un esquema de laboratorio extendido. Este trabajo desarrolló un enfoque experimental de un proyecto en casa para abordar un problema ambiental, desarrollando bioplásticos a base de semillas de aguacate reforzados con aceites esenciales que muestran propiedades antifúngicas y propiedades de barrera al agua. Todos los experimentos y caracterizaciones se pudieron adaptar a un entorno doméstico. Esta contribución demuestra que es posible completar un proyecto de experimental totalmente basado en casa y obtener resultados significativamente buenos. Este enfoque para conducir proyectos de forma remota podría ser adoptado por universidades que enfrentan limitaciones, como falta de instalaciones de laboratorio o poca disponibilidad de equipos. También puede aplicarse a iniciativas de educación a distancia y ayudar a superar barreras educativas para personas que enfrentan desigualdades de género, especialmente madres de familia.]]></p></abstract>
