<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S0187-73802022000100013&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S0187-73802022000100013&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S0187-73802022000100013&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN La raza de maíz Cacahuacintle se distribuye geográficamente en los Valles Altos del centro de México y se caracteriza por su grano harinoso; las formas típicas han sido descritas; sin embargo, la información sobre la variación agro-morfológica entre subtipos de la raza es limitada, así como las diferencias entre las variantes de las diferentes regiones. Se colectaron 39 poblaciones de maíz Cacahuacintle en los estados de Puebla (Ciudad Serdán), Tlaxcala (Ixtenco) y el Estado de México (Calimaya, Techuchulco de Allende, Amecameca y San Felipe del Progreso), se establecieron experimentos de campo en cuatro ambientes agroecológicos en los años 2018 y 2019, en el Estado de México (Texcoco y Ayapango) y Tlaxcala (Ixtenco). Se registraron 24 variables agro-morfológicas, las cuales se sometieron a análisis de varianza combinado y, a partir de éste, se estimaron las componentes de varianza para genotipos (&#963;  2  g ), ambientes (&#963;  2  a ) y la interacción genotipo × ambiente (&#963;  2  g×a ). Diez variables relacionadas con dimensiones de estructuras de mazorca, grano y espiga presentaron valores de repetibilidad r = [&#963;  2  g /(&#963;  2  a + &#963;  2  g×a )] superiores a 0.7, que se consideraron apropiadas para estudiar la diversidad agro-morfológica; con estas variables se realizaron análisis de componentes principales y de conglomerados. Los primeros dos componentes principales explicaron el 68% de la variación total. En el plano definido por los dos primeros componentes principales se formaron tres grupos en función de tamaño y forma de grano, principalmente: 1) poblaciones de maíz Chalqueño, incluido como referencia morfológica diferente; 2) poblaciones típicas de Cacahuacintle (Calimaya, Techuchulco y Amecameca, Estado México y Ciudad Serdán, Puebla, predominantemente) y 3) variantes de tipo Cacahuacintle pero de grano más pequeño o menos redondeado (Ixtenco, Tlaxcala; San Felipe, Estado de México); esta aproximación fue consistente con la formación de grupos por el análisis de conglomerados. La diversidad genética entre poblaciones es más amplia de lo que se conocía, con variantes asociadas al origen geográfico.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[SUMMARY The Cacahuacintle maize race geographically is distributed in the Mexican central highlands and it is characterized by its floury grain; typical forms have been described; however, the information on the agro-morphological variation within sub-types is limited, as well as the differences between the variants from different regions. Thirty-nine populations of Cacahuacintle maize were collected in the states of Puebla (Ciudad Serdán), Tlaxcala (Ixtenco) and State of México (Calimaya, Techuchulco, Amecameca and San Felipe del Progreso) and field experiments were established at four agro-ecological environments in the years 2018 and 2019, in the State of Mexico (Texcoco and Ayapango) and Tlaxcala (Ixtenco). Twenty-four agro-morphological traits were recorded, which were subjected to combined analysis of variance and, from this, the variance components for genotypes (&#963;  2  g ), environments (&#963;  2  e ) and genotype by environment interaction (&#963;  2  g×e ) were estimated. Ten variables related to the dimensions of ear, grain and tassel structures presented repeatability values r = [&#963;  2  g /(&#963;  2  e + &#963;  2  g×e )] larger than 0.7%, which were considered appropriate to study the agro-morphological diversity. Principal component and cluster analysis were performed with these variables. The first two principal components explained 68% of the total variance. In the plane defined by the first two principal components, three groups were formed based on grain size and shape, mainly: 1) Chalqueño maize populations which were included as a different morphological reference; 2) typical Cacahuacintle populations (Calimaya, Techuchulco, and Amecameca, State of Mexico, and Serdán, Puebla, predominantly) and 3) variants of the Cacahuacintle type but with a smaller or less rounded kernel (Ixtenco, Tlaxcala; San Felipe, State of Mexico); this approach was consistent with grouping obtained by cluster analysis. Genetic diversity between Cacahuacintle populations is broader than previously known, with variants associated with geographic origin.]]></p></abstract>
