Varias especies forrajeras de leguminosas nativas pueden ser integradas a los sistemas de producción animal en el trópico seco, pero para ello se requiere conocer su nivel de valoración, de modo que su uso continúe. El objetivo del presente estudio fue conocer el valor que productores de rumiantes les confieren a las leguminosas forrajeras nativas Macroptilium atropurpureum [(Moc. &amp; Sesse ex DC.) Urban], Macroptilium lathyroides [(L.) Urban] y Phaseolus acutifolius (A. Gray) en la región Mixteca Baja Poblana. Con base en un muestreo estadístico aleatorio, 94 productores fueron entrevistados. El grado de valoración de las leguminosas se obtuvo mediante índices en los que se incluyó el manejo (IM), valor forrajero (ÍVF) y conocimiento (ÍC). El valor bajo del IM (0.0205) e ÍVF (0.4450) indica que los productores no manejan a las leguminosas como forraje y les confieren poco valor como alimento para los rumiantes. El valor alto del ÍC (0.811) significa que los productores distinguen a las especies como parte de la vegetación nativa de la región. Se concluye que el conocimiento, el manejo y valoración de estas especies nativas como forraje en la región de estudio es escaso. En la región no hay apreciación de estas especies y, por tanto, no existe un aprovechamiento consciente de estos forrajes nativos, los cuales, por su disponibilidad y adaptación, podrían ampliar la distribución y diversificación de los recursos forrajeros locales.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Summary The valuation of a species as plant genetic resource is important for its use, conservation and improvement. Several forage species of native legumes can be integrated into animal production systems in the dry tropics, but this requires knowing their level of valuation, so that their use continue. This study assessed the value that producers of ruminants give to native forage legumes Macroptilium atropurpureum [(Moc. &amp; Sesse ex DC.) Urban], Macroptilium lathyroides [(L.) Urban] and Phaseolus acutifolius (A. Gray) in the Mixteca Baja Poblana region. Based on random statistical sampling, 94 producers were interviewed. The degree of valuation of legumes was obtained by means of indexes in which management (MI), forage value (FVI) and knowledge (KI) were included. The low values for MI (0.0205) and FVI (0.4450) indicate that producers do not handle legumes as fodder and give them little value as feed for ruminants. The high value of KI (0.811) means that producers distinguish the species as part of the native vegetation of the region. It is concluded that the knowledge, management and valuation of these native species as forage in the study region is scarce. There is no appreciation in the region for these species, and therefore, there is no conscious use of these native forages, which, due to their availability and adaptation, could expand the distribution and diversification of local forage resources.]]></p></abstract>
