Actualmente el país tiene un déficit en la producción de trigo harinero y un superávit del cristalino. Para lograr su autosuficiencia alimentaria y aumentar la productividad es necesario desarrollar variedades de mayor rendimiento e identificar sus mejores condiciones de producción. Con el propósito de determinar la especie más productiva y mejor adaptada a las regiones productoras de México bajo diferentes condiciones de riego y fechas de siembra, se diseñó un experimento con ocho genotipos cristalinos (Triticum durum Desf.) y ocho harineros (Triticum aestivum L.) sembrados en los ciclos otoño invierno 2012-2013 y 2013-2014 en 30 ambientes del Noroeste, Norte y El Bajío, como parte de los Ensayos Nacionales de Trigo de Riego (ENTRI) del Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Forestales, Agrícolas y Pecuarias. En un primer análisis se utilizaron sólo los ambientes con fecha normal, un total de 22, y se agruparon en: 1) todos los ambientes, 2) ambientes de riego completo, 3) riego reducido, 4, 5 y 6) por región y 7, 8, 9 y 10) nivel de riego por región en el Noroeste y El Bajío. Los ocho ambientes restantes permitieron evaluar el efecto fecha de siembra. Los resultados indicaron que el rendimiento de grano varió significativamente entre regiones obteniéndose los más altos en el Noroeste, seguidos por el Norte y El Bajío. El rendimiento de trigos cristalinos fue significativamente superior al de los harineros en la mitad de los grupos de ambientes. Las mayores diferencias en rendimiento se observaron en condiciones de riego completo, donde los cristalinos fueron superiores. En riego reducido, los rendimientos de ambas especies fueron similares. El efecto fecha de siembra, de normal a tardía, afectó negativamente a ambas especies, aunque en mayor magnitud a los trigos cristalinos. Las variedades de reciente liberación tienen mayor potencial productivo que las liberadas anteriormente.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[SUMMARY Bread and durum wheats are important in Mexico due to their consumption and economic impact. Currently, the country has a deficit of bread wheat and a surplus in durum wheat production. To achieve food self-sufficiency and increase productivity it is necessary to develop higher yield varieties and to identify the best production conditions. In order to determine the most productive and best adapted wheat species to the producing regions in Mexico under different irrigation conditions and planting dates, an experiment was designed with eight durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.) and eight bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genotypes, during the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 Gall-Winter cycles in 30 environments of the Northwest, Northern, and El Bajío regions as part of the National Wheat Trial for Irrigated Conditions (ENTRI) of the National Institute for Forestry, Agriculture and Livestock Research. In a first analysis, only environments with normal planting date were considered, a total of 22, and grouped into: 1) all environments, 2) full irrigation environments, 3) reduced irrigation, 4, 5 and 6) by region and 7, 8, 9 and 10) irrigation level by region in the Northwest and El Bajío. The eight remaining environments were used to evaluate the effect of planting date. Results showed that grain yield varied significantly between regions, obtaining the highest yields in the Northwest, followed by the North and El Bajio. The grain yield of durum wheats was significantly higher than that of bread wheat in half of the groups of environments. The largest differences in yield were observed under full irrigation conditions, where durum wheats were superior. Under reduced irrigation conditions, yields of both species were similar. The effect of planting date, from normal to late, negatively affected both species, but the impact was higher in durum wheats. The newly released varieties have higher yielding potential than those previously released.]]></p></abstract>
