<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S0187-57792025000100308&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S0187-57792025000100308&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S0187-57792025000100308&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen: Las ventajas de los humedales artificiales, como su bajo costo de construcción y operación, así como el aporte de servicios ecosistémicos, le atribuyen un alto potencial para ser utilizados en el tratamiento de aguas en países en desarrollo; la búsqueda de nuevos materiales de soporte es una de las vías para optimizar estos sistemas. En este sentido los materiales estabilizados, que son residuos provenientes de celdas clausuradas de rellenos sanitarios, podrían ser potencialmente favorables para esta aplicación ya que las características fisicoquímicas que se han reportado para estos pueden contribuir a la remoción de compuestos presentes en el agua residual, además la presencia de microorganismos adaptados a la asimilación de contaminantes puede coadyuvar a incrementar la eficiencia del sistema, por otra parte, se ha demostrado que los materiales estabilizados pueden contribuir al desarrollo vegetal lo cual permitiría el establecimiento de cultivos de interés comercial con mayores requerimientos como lo son las plantas ornamentales. En este trabajo fueron evaluadas cuatro mezclas de material estabilizado y grava (0/100%, 25/75%, 50/50%, 75/25%) como sustrato en humedales de tipo subsuperficial con un volumen efectivo de operación de 45 litros, plantados con Canna sp bajo un diseño completamente al azar, mismos que fueron realizados por triplicado. Los resultados sugieren que Canna sp. puede desarrollar mecanismos de adaptación que le permiten sobrevivir en un 100% a las condiciones de operación presentes en un humedal artificial, sin embargo, la presencia y la proporción de material estabilizado influyó positivamente en su desarrollo vegetal, incrementando significativamente la generación de biomasa, la producción de flores y el contenido de clorofila; respuesta atribuible al contenido de nitrógeno, fósforo y potasio encontrado en el material estabilizado, así como a su capacidad de intercambio catiónico. No obstante, proporciones de material estabilizado superiores al 50% afectan negativamente el comportamiento hidráulico del sistema.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Summary: The advantages of constructed wetlands, such as their low cost of construction and operation, as well as the contribution of ecosystem services, give them a high potential to be used in wastewater treatment in developing countries; the search for new substrates is one of the ways to optimize these systems. In this sense, aged refuse, which are wastes from closed landfill cells, could be potentially favorable for this application since the physicochemical characteristics that have been reported for these materials can contribute to the removal of compounds present in wastewater, In addition the presence of microorganisms adapted to the assimilation of pollutants can contribute to increase the efficiency of the system. On the other hand, it has been demonstrated that aged refuses can contribute to plant development, which would allow the establishment of crops of commercial interest with greater requirements, such as ornamental plants. In this work, four mixtures of aged refuses and gravel (0/100%, 25/75%, 50/50%, 75/25%) were evaluated as substrate in subsurface wetlands with an effective operating volume of 45 liters planted with Canna sp. under a completely randomized design, which were carried out in triplicate. The results suggest that Canna sp. can develop adaptation mechanisms that allow it to survive in the operating conditions present in an artificial wetland; however, the presence and proportion of aged refuses positively influenced the plant development, significantly increasing biomass generation, flower production, and chlorophyll content; a response attributable to the nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium content found in the aged refuses, as well as to its cation exchange capacity. However, proportions of aged refuse higher than 50% negatively affect the hydraulic behavior of the system.]]></p></abstract>
