El objetivo de la investigación fue determinar la utilidad del agua y las variables agronómicas de tres híbridos de cruza simple de maíz (IA442 F × IA446, IA424 F × IA249 y IA442 F × IA213), que se emplean como progenitores de híbridos trilineales, bajo tratamientos de eliminación de espiga y hojas. Los experimentos se ubicaron en dos localidades del Valle de México, en Cuautitlán y Texcoco, Estado de México, en el año 2019. En los dos ambientes, los tres híbridos se manejaron sin desespigue (testigo), desespigue (D) y desespigue con eliminación de una hasta cinco hojas (D+1, D+2, D+3, D+4, D +5); el experimento fue factorial, con diseño experimental en tres bloques completos al azar. La utilidad del agua total y el rendimiento tuvieron diferencia estadística en los ambientes (p &lt; 0.05): 2.2 kg m-3 y 9.98 Mg ha-1 en Cuautitlán, así como 0.9 kg m-3 y 6.39 Mg ha-1 en Texcoco. También se encontró significancia en estas variables entre cruzas con 1.5 kg m-3 y 7.8 Mg ha-1 para IA442 F × IA446, 1.3 kg m-3 y 6.87 Mg ha-1 para IA424 F × IA249 y 1.9 kg m-3 con 9.99 Mg ha-1 para IA442 F × IA213. Los tratamientos de desespigue y eliminación de hoja sólo generaron efecto significativo en longitud de mazorca, pero la eliminación de espiga mostró la utilidad y rendimiento más alto (1.7 kg m-3 y 9.05 Mg ha-1). El genotipo IA442 F × IA213 presentó la utilidad del agua superior con 2.7 kg m-3 en condiciones de menor disponibilidad de agua (Cuautitlán). El desespigue y eliminación de hoja no presentaron efecto en la utilidad del agua total.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Summary: In seed production, it is necessary to determine the response of single crosses that serve as parents of three-way hybrids under conditions of limited water availability. The objective of this research was to determine water use efficiency and agronomic variables of three single-cross maize hybrids (IA442 F × IA446, IA424 F × IA249, IA442 F × IA213), parents of three-way hybrids, under tassel and leaf elimination treatments. The experiments were conducted in two locations in the Valley of Mexico, Cuautitlán and Texcoco, State of Mexico. The three hybrids were evaluated under the following treatments: without detasseling (control), detasseling (D), and detasseling with removal of one to five leaves (D+1, D+2, D+3, D+4, D+5). A factorial experiment was established using a randomized complete block design with three replications. Total water use efficiency and grain yield showed significant differences between environments (p &lt; 0.05): 2.2 kg m-³ and 9.98 Mg ha-¹ in Cuautitlán, and 0.9 kg m-³ and 6.39 Mg ha-¹ in Texcoco. Significant differences were also observed among crosses, with values of 1.5 kg m-³ and 7.8 Mg ha-¹ for IA442 F × IA446; 1.3 kg m-³ and 6.87 Mg ha-¹ for IA424 F × IA249; and 1.9 kg m-³ and 9.99 Mg ha-¹ for IA442 F × IA213. The detasseling and leaf-removal treatments produced a significant effect only on ear length; however, tassel removal alone resulted in higher water use efficiency and grain yield (1.7 kg m-³ and 9.05 Mg ha-¹). The IA442 F × IA213 genotype showed the highest water use efficiency, reaching 2.7 kg m-³ under limited water conditions (Cuautitlán). No effect of detasseling or leaf removal on total water use efficiency was observed.]]></p></abstract>
