El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el desempeño biológico de la lombriz roja californiana (Eisenia foetida Sav.) y la calidad del vermicompost generado a partir de cuatro mezclas de sustratos orgánicos: estiércol bovino+raquis de banano (T1), estiércol bovino+raquis de palma (T2), estiércol bovino+raquis de coco (T3) y estiércol bovino+residuos vegetales de mercado (T4), con relaciones 50:50 (% en volumen). El diseño experimental utilizado fue bloques completamente al azar con ocho repeticiones. Se evaluaron la longitud, la población, las tasas de crecimiento y reproducción de la lombriz roja a los 30 y 45 días después de inicio de los tratamientos, además, el rendimiento y calidad bromatológica del vermicompost generado. Los mejores resultados se obtuvieron a los 45 días de evaluación. Los tratamientos T1, T4 y T2 presentaron los mayores promedios de longitud de lombrices, con valores de 5.58 ± 0.09, 5.53 ± 0.16 y 5.40 ± 0.25 cm, respectivamente. El tratamiento T4 registró la mayor densidad poblacional, con 4319.75 ± 64.71 lombrices m2, así como la mayor tasa de crecimiento (0.32 ± 0.01 mg lombriz día) y el mayor índice de reproducción (14.56 ± 0.23%). El tratamiento T1 presentó el mayor rendimiento de vermicompost, con 40.38 ± 0.58 kg m³, un pH alcalino de 8.77 ± 0.15 y un contenido de K del 1.57 ± 0.01%. No obstante, el tratamiento T3 mostró los mayores contenidos de materia orgánica (50.97 ± 0.21%), carbono total (22.23 ± 0.99%) y una relación C/N de 22.61 ± 0.70. Estos resultados evidencian el potencial del vermicompostaje como una estrategia biotecnológica eficiente para la reproducción de la lombriz roja californiana y el aprovechamiento de residuos orgánicos agroindustriales, permitiendo la producción de enmiendas orgánicas de alta calidad para la recuperación y mejora de suelos agrícolas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Summary: The degradation of agricultural soils decreases their fertility and nutrient retention capacity, making the application of organic amendments, such as vermicompost, essential for their restoration and functional improvement. The objective of this study was to evaluate the biological performance of the Californian red worm (Eisenia foetida Sav.) and the quality of the vermicompost generated from four organic substrate mixtures: cattle manure + banana rachis (T1), cattle manure + palm rachis (T2), cattle manure + coconut rachis (T3), and cattle manure + market plant waste (T4), with 50:50 ratios (% by volume). The experimental design used was a randomized block with eight replications. The length, population, growth, and reproduction rates of the red worm were evaluated 30 and 45 days after the start of the treatments, in addition to the yield and bromatological quality of the vermicompost produced. The best results were obtained after 45 days of evaluation. Treatments T1, T4, and T2 showed the highest average worm lengths, with values of 5.58 ± 0.09, 5.53 ± 0.16, and 5.40 ± 0.25 cm, respectively.
