El objetivo del presente estudio fue estimar el contenido de carbono orgánico del suelo (COS) y el carbono de la vegetación (COV) para el estado de Campeche, México. Desarrollando una metodología en condiciones de poca disponibilidad de información. Se utilizaron las bases de datos oficiales disponibles en México del Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (INEGI). La principal limitante de los datos del INEGI para la estimación del COS por unidad de área, es la falta de información sobre la densidad aparente del suelo. Por lo tanto, la densidad aparente para los suelos se obtuvo a través de regresiones lineales múltiples, utilizando datos de 37 perfiles de suelo que fueron descritos en 10 de los 14 grupos de suelos reportados en el Estado. El COS ha-1 para cada perfil/unidad de suelo para todo el estado, se calculó siguiendo la fórmula propuesta por el Panel Intergubernamental de Cambio Climático. La estimación del COV se realizó usando datos de la superficie ocupada por tipo de vegetación del INEGI, reclasificando los tipos de vegetación de 58 a 23, utilizando los valores de COV por ha. La reducción del coeficiente de variación en comparación con los resultados de otros estudios, muestra que la metodología aplicada produce estimaciones más precisas. El carbono total estimado para el estado de Campeche fue de 765 417 Gg, de los cuales 64.1% correspondió a COS y 35.9% a COV.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[SUMMARY: Assessing carbon content in soil and vegetation is a burdensome task, hence, the importance of developing reliable methods using databases with scarce information. The objective of the present study was to estimate the content of soil organic carbon (SOC) and organic carbon in vegetation (OCV) for the State of Campeche, Mexico. Developing a methodology in conditions of low availability of information. The off icial database available in Mexico (Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía; INEGI) was used. The main limiting factor of the INEGI database for estimating the SOC by land unit area is the missing information on soil bulk density. Therefore, the bulk density of the soils was obtained using linear multiple regressions with data from 37 soil profiles that were described in 10 of the 14 soil types reported in the State. The SOC ha-1 for each profile/soil unit for the whole State was calculated using the formula proposed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Estimation of OCV was achieved using INEGI database (area for vegetation type), reclassifying the vegetation types, from 58 to 23. The reduction of the coefficient of variation in comparison with the results of other studies shows that the applied methodology produces more precise estimates. The total carbon estimated for the State of Campeche was 765 417 Gg, of which 64.1% accounted for SOC and 35.9% for OCV.]]></p></abstract>
