Esto provoca deficiencia del elemento en las plantas y disminución de la producción y calidad de las cosechas. Una de las formas más eficaces de corregir dicha deficiencia es la aplicación del hierro en forma de quelato Fe-EDDHA (etilendiamino-di-(o-hidroxifenilacetato férrico) al suelo. Sin embargo, el hierro quelatado de esta manera es fácil de lixiviarse pudiendo llegar al subsuelo y contaminar quizás la capa freática. Se evaluó el grado de lixiviación del hierro aplicado al suelo como quelato Fe-EDDHA y FeSO4 en la zona centro del estado de Tamaulipas, México. Se ensayaron columnas de suelo de 10, 20 y 30 cm de altura de dos sitios; uno calcáreo y uno no calcáreo, usando dos fuentes de hierro, Fe-EDDHA y FeSO4, aplicadas por goteo en concentración de 100 mg Fe L-1 sobre la superficie de las columnas. El hierro aplicado como quelato Fe-EDDHA presentó alta lixiviación en ambos suelos, pero el movimiento descendente fue mayor en el suelo no calcáreo. Cuando el elemento se aplicó en solución de FeSO4, no ocurrió lixiviación del hierro.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The availability of iron to crops established in calcareous soils is generally low. This condition produces deficiency of iron in the plants and reduction of yield and quality of fruits. One of the forms more efficient to correct this deficiency is the application of iron as chelate Fe-EDDHA (ferric ethylenediamine-di-o-hydroxyphenylacetate) to soil. However, the chelated iron has high leaching and it could move to subsoil, contaminating the underground water. The rate of leaching of applied iron as chelate Fe-EDDHA and FeSO4 was evaluated, in the central zone of Tamaulipas, Mexico. Soil columns of 10, 20 and 30 cm height of two sites were assayed; calcareous and non calcareous soils, using two sources of iron, Fe-EDDHA and FeSO4, applied in dissolution at 100 mg Fe L-1 concentration on surface of the columns. The applied iron in form of chelate Fe-EDDHA presented high leaching in both soils, but the descendent movement was major in the non calcareous soil. When the element was applied as FeSO4 solution, did not occur leaching of iron.]]></p></abstract>
