Tala en campo. Las variables evaluadas fueron: rendimiento de fruto, número de frutos por planta, tasas de asimilación neta de CO2, contenido de azúcares totales, firmeza y color de fruto en dos tamaños de fruto, 1 y 2 (mercado nacional y exportación). El fruto de tamaño 1 (12-15 cm) incrementó su rendimiento cuando aumentaron los niveles de N (de 150 a 330 kg ha-1), pero no con los incrementos de K; el rendimiento de fruto tamaño 2 (16-25 cm) no fue afectado por los niveles de N y K probados. El número de frutos en ambos tipos no presentó diferencias en las dosis de N y K (P &#8804; 0.10), y tampoco la tasa de asimilación neta de CO2 presentó diferencias entre las dosis probadas, aunque se presentaron altos valores de CO2 (41 y 38 &#956;moles de CO2 m-2s-1) para una planta C3 El fruto de tamaño 1 no presentó diferencias en contenido de azúcares totales entre las dosis evaluadas, pero en fruto tamaño 2 hubo altos niveles de azúcares (0.044 mg mL-1) con altas dosis de N (240 y 330 kg ha-1). La firmeza de frutos fue mayor con los menores niveles de N y los mayores de K, en ambos tamaños de fruto. El color verde fue favorecido con las más altas dosis de N (330 kg ha-1) y de K (150 kg ha-1).]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Nine treatments resulting from three N rates (150, 240 and 330 kg ha-1) and three K rates (90, 120 and 150 kg ha-1), were compared regarding fruit yield and quality of zucchini (Cucurbita pepo L.) cv. Tala under field conditions. Measured variables were: fruit yield, fruit number per plant, leaf net CO2 assimilation rate; total sugars content, firmness and color. Two fruit sizes were considered: for national consumption (size 1) and for export (size 2). Fruit size 1 (12-15 cm) yield increased by increasing the N rate from 150 to 330 kg ha-1, but was not affected by K rates or the N × K interaction. Fruits size 2 (16-25 cm) yield was unaffected by the N and K rates. In both sizes, the number of fruits per plant was not altered by the imposed treatments; the CO2 net assimilation rate was not affected either, but the plants showed high rates (41 and 38 µmoles of CO2 m-2s-1) for a C3 plant. Regarding fruit quality, treatments did not affect total sugar content in size 1 but in size 2 the sugar content was higher at the high N rates (240 and 330 kg ha-1). For both fruit sizes, firmness increased as N decreased and K increased. Fruits were greener as N and K rates increased.]]></p></abstract>
