El presente estudio demuestra primero este punto al discutir brevemente las diferencias centrales entre las culturas políticas de Alemania y los Estados Unidos, para luego reconstruir, siguiendo a Weber, el dualismo clásico de la cultura política norteamericana: un dominio del mundo y un individualismo confiado en sí mismo, opuesto a -aunque también entretejido con- una esfera pública penetrada por ideales cívicos. Aunque las expectativas de Weber con respecto al destino de este dualismo clásico en el siglo XX pudieran apreciarse hoy como ampliamente incorrectas, la utilización de un axioma central de su sociología histórico-comparativa arroja una poderosa conceptuación de la cultura política norteamericana actual: la identificación de movimientos pendulares a través de una &#8220;constelación tripolar&#8221;. Esta aplicación de la sociología de Weber revela su poder analítico inclusive hoy.]]></p></abstract>
