Para la realización de este artículo se revisaron en Pubmed las publicaciones de los últimos cinco años acerca de edulcorantes no calóricos. Los estudios epidemiológicos reportan aumento del riesgo de diabetes y mayor peso corporal con su consumo. Su creciente consumo corre en paralelo con el aumento poblacional del índice de masa corporal. A pesar de la gran cantidad de información, los datos epidemiológicos no se han confirmado por estudios controlados. No hay evidencia para recomendar los endulzantes sin calorías. Hay que procurar la disminución del dulzor general de la dieta.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Doctors have to advice their patients about the use of non-caloric sweeteners as an adjuvant in overweight and diabetes management. This paper presents the review of the last five years of literature concerning non-caloric sweeteners. Epidemiologic studies report a bigger risk of diabetes and weight increase. The increase in use of non-caloric sweeteners is paralleled by a generalized tendency to obesity. In spite of the enormous quantity of information, the epidemiologic data has not been confirmed by randomized trials. There in not enough evidence to advice properly our patients. The wise word would recommend trying to use plain water to accompany our meals.]]></p></abstract>
