Un tramo de este río denominado &#8220;meandro del río Lerma&#8221;, localizado en la zona metropolitana La Piedad-Pénjamo fue aislado del cauce natural. Para conocer las condiciones actuales por el uso de suelo y su efecto en la vegetación ribereña, se estudió la estructura de sus laderas, así como la cobertura y la composición florística del mismo. Se observó que tanto por asentamientos humanos, actividades agrícolas, así como por los desechos vertidos a este cuerpo de agua solo el 70% del área muestreada presenta cobertura vegetal compuesta por 35 familias y 81 especies, siendo las familias más representativas la Asteraceae y Poaceae. Del estrato arbóreo prevalecen elementos del bosque de galería característico del sistema ripario compuesto por Salix bonplandiana Kunth y Taxodium mucronatum Ten. pero, con algunas afectaciones. De los demás estratos, las especies con mayor área de cobertura son Sorghum halepense (L.) Pers, así como las especies exóticas Ricinus communis L. y Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms, (18.5%, 12.9% y 8.2% respectivamente) que además fueron las de mayor frecuencia e índice de valor de importancia. Este estudio puede servir tanto para promover el conocimiento de vegetación ribereña como para implementar estrategias de conservación, mantenimiento y/o recuperación de este cuerpo de agua, independiente de si se le da tratamiento de río intermitente o como laguna artificial.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Rivers are greatly affected by anthropogenic activities and Lerma river, which runs through central Mexico, is an obvious example of this impact. A section of this river called the &#8220;meander of the Lerma river&#8221; located in the La Piedad-Pénjamo metropolitan area was isolated from the natural riverbed. To know the current conditions due to land use and its effect on the riparian vegetation, the structure of its slopes was studied, as well as its coverage and floristic composition. It was demonstrated that both due to human settlements, agricultural activities, as well as the waste dumped into this body of water, only 70% of the sampled area presents vegetal coverage with a considerable richness of species, finding 35 families and 85 species, being the most representative families. the Asteraceae and Poaceae. On the tree layer prevail gallery forest characteristic elements of the riparian system composed of Salix bonplandiana Kunth and Taxodium mucronatum Ten. is still observed, with some conditions. Of the other strata, the species with the largest coverage area are Sorghum halepense (L.) Pers as well as the exotic species Ricinus commnunis L. and Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms, (18.5%, 12.9% and 8.2% respectively) which also were those with the highest frequency and importance value index. This study can serve both to promote knowledge of riparian vegetation and to implement conservation, maintenance and/or recovery strategies for this body of water, regardless of whether it is treated as an intermittent river or as an artificial lagoon.]]></p></abstract>
