The importance of the Tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV) in the tomato and pepper crops in the world has created the need to investigate and test alternatives for its management. Preventive tactics are the best option to manage a viral disease, so the objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of sodium hypochlorite, ethyl alcohol, quaternary ammonium salts, liquid soap and milk powder dissolved in water, applied by spraying and immersion of razor blades infested with the virus and inoculating mechanically on Nicotiana rustica and N. benthamiana leaves. A completely randomized design with five repetitions was used and the experimental unit was the area of &#8203;&#8203;a tobacco leaf delimited by a rectangle, and the response variable was the number of local lesions/cm2 (LL/cm2). A non-parametric analysis and a Kruskal Wallis test for comparison of means were used to evaluate the treatments, and significative differences were found (Ji&lt;.0001). Sodium hypochlorite (spraying) and the subsequent application of milk prevented the appearance of local lesions and the transmission of ToBRFV. While the worst treatments were ethyl alcohol (immersion) with an average of 12 LL/cm2, and quaternary ammonium salts (immersion) with 3.22 LL/cm2. The rest of the treatments significantly reduced the number of LL/cm2 (&lt;1), but did not prevent the appearance of systemic symptoms in the inoculated plants.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen. La importancia del Tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV) en el cultivo de jitomate y pimiento ha creado la necesidad de investigar y probar alternativas para su manejo, por lo que el objetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar la efectividad del hipoclorito de sodio, alcohol etílico, sales cuaternarias de amonio, jabón líquido y leche en polvo disuelta en agua, aplicados por aspersión e inmersión en navajas infestadas con ToBRFV e inoculadas sobre Nicotiana rustica y N. benthamiana. Se utilizó un diseño completamente al azar con cinco repeticiones y la unidad experimental fue el área de una hoja de tabaco delimitada por un rectángulo, la variable respuesta fue el número de lesiones locales/cm2 (LC/cm2). Se utilizó un análisis no paramétrico y una prueba de Kruskal Wallis de comparación de medias para evaluar los tratamientos, encontrando diferencias significativas (Ji&lt;.0001). El hipoclorito de sodio (aspersión) y la posterior aplicación de la leche evitaron la aparición de lesiones locales y la transmisión del ToBRFV. Mientras que los peores tratamientos fueron el alcohol etílico (inmersión) con un promedio de 12 LC/cm2 y las sales cuaternarias de amonio (inmersión) con 3.22 LC/cm2. El resto de los tratamientos redujeron significativamente el número de LC/cm2 (&lt;1), pero no evitaron la aparición de síntomas sistémicos en las plantas inoculadas.]]></p></abstract>
