In Zitácuaro, Michoacán, production has increased by 19.8%; however, there are no studies of root rot in this area. The objective of the study was to characterize the isolates obtained from avocado roots and assess the sensitivity to fungicides. Samples from 5 avocado orchards were collected, sampling 5 trees per orchard (a total of 25 samples). The samples isolated were characterized morphological and molecularly. Mating type was analyzed using reference isolates of P. cinnamomi A1 (isolate from camelia) and A2 (isolate from avocado). To confirm the pathogenicity, tests were performed on avocado fruits with the isolates. The sensitivity of 15 isolates to potassium phosphite and to metalaxyl-M at different concentrations was evaluated in vitro. In a subgroup of six isolates, it was evaluated whether there was a relationship between growth rate and potassium phosphite sensitivity. Fifteen isolates were obtained with coenocytic coraloid mycelium, chlamydospores, sporangia without papilla, ovoid to ellipsoid, with internal proliferation, heterothallic with mating type A2, with amphigynous antheridia and plerotic oospores, characteristics consistent with P. cinnamomi. The inoculated isolates were pathogenic on avocado fruits. The isolates were more sensitive to potassium phosphite than to metalaxyl-M, with mean EC50 values of 24.62 and 0.215 &#956;g mL-1 of i.a., respectively. No relationship was observed between growth rate and potassium phosphite sensitivity. It is necessary to obtain a greater number of P. cinnamomi isolates for virulence studies.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Phytophthora cinnamomi es el patógeno más frecuentemente asociado a la pudrición de raíz en aguacate. En Zitácuaro, Michoacán la producción ha aumentado un 19.8 %; sin embargo, actualmente no existen estudios de esta enfermedad en la región. El objetivo de este estudio fue caracterizar aislados obtenidos de raíces de aguacate y evaluar la sensibilidad a fungicidas. Se tomaron muestras de cinco huertas de aguacate, tomando cinco árboles por huerta (25 muestras en total). A partir de las muestras se aislaron, y se identificaron morfológica y molecularmente las cepas obtenidas. Se analizó el tipo de compatibilidad con aislados de referencia de P. cinnamomi A1(aislado de camelia) y A2 (aislado de aguacate). Para comprobar la patogenicidad, se realizaron pruebas en frutos de aguacate con los aislados. Se evaluó la sensibilidad de 15 aislados a fosfito de potasio y metalaxil-M en diferentes concentraciones bajo condiciones in vitro. En un subgrupo de seis aislados se evaluó la relación entre la tasa de crecimiento y la sensibilidad a fosfito de potasio. Se obtuvieron 15 aislados con micelio cenocítico coraloide, clamidosporas, esporangios sin papila, ovoides y elipsoides, con proliferación interna, heterotálicos, tipo de compatibilidad A2, con anteridios anfíginos y oosporas pleróticas características que concuerdan con P. cinnamomi. Los aislados inoculados fueron patógenicos en frutos de aguacate. Los aislados fueron más sensibles a fosfito de potasio que a metalaxil-M, con valores promedio de CE50 de 24.62 y 0.215 &#956;g mL-1 de i.a., respectivamente. No se observó relación entre la tasa de crecimiento y la sensibilidad a fosfito de potasio. Es necesario obtener mayor número de aislados para estudios de virulencia.]]></p></abstract>
