La tomografía es el método actualmente actualizado para valorar sarcopenia, sin embargo, es necesario contar con un método sencillo, barato y accesible que pueda aplicarse antes de la cirugía, como la dinamometría de mano.  Objetivo: Establecer la utilidad del diagnóstico de sarcopenia medida por dinamometría como predictor de fuga de anastomosis colónicas.  Material y métodos: El estudio es transversal, experimental. Se midió fuerza braquial con dinamometría de mano. Se utilizó rho de Spearman y área bajo la curva ROC.  Resultados: Existe correlación entre la sarcopenia medida por dinamometría y la fuga de anastomosis (p = 0.011), se determinó sensibilidad del 66% y especificidad 90% de la dinamometría en parámetros menores a 25.3 lbs, área bajo la curva ROC. La fuga es más frecuente en hombres, el tabaquismo no tiene asociación con la fuga de las anastomosis. Las comorbilidades tienen relación con la fuga. La altura de la anastomosis sí influye en la fuga de anastomosis, se infiere a más alto, mayor riesgo de fuga. A pesar de que los pacientes que se prehabilitaron no presentaron fuga en la anastomosis, no se encontró asociación protectora entre la prehabilitación y la fuga de anastomosis.  Conclusiones: Existe relación entre la sarcopenia medida por dinamometría y la fuga de anastomosis; sin embargo, no se encontró asociación protectora.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Background: Sarcopenia reflects poor nutritional status in patients and a risk factor for colorectal anastomotic leaks. Computed tomography is the most widely used method for assessing sarcopenia; however, a simple, inexpensive, and accessible method, such as handheld dynamometry, is needed that can be applied before surgery.  Objective: To establish the usefulness of the diagnosis of sarcopenia measured by dynamometry as a predictor of colonic anastomosis leakage.  Material and methods: The study is transversal, experimental. Brachial strength was measured with hand dynamometry. Spearman’s rho and area under the ROC curve were used.  Results: There is a correlation between sarcopenia measured by dynamometry and anastomotic leakage (p = 0.011), with a sensitivity of 66% and specificity of 90% for dynamometry in parameters less than 25.3 pounds, area under the ROC curve. Leakage is more frequent in men, and smoking has no association with anastomotic leakage. Comorbidities are related to leakage. The height of the anastomosis does influence the leakage, inferring that the higher it is, the greater the risk of leakage. Despite that patients who were prehabilitated did not present leakage in the anastomosis, no protective association was found between prehabilitation and anastomotic leakage.  Conclusions: There is a relationship between sarcopenia measured by dynamometry and anastomotic leakage; however, no protective association was found.]]></p></abstract>
