Las alternativas, como los edulcorantes, se han propuesto como una posible solución. Sin embargo, la evidencia ha sido controversial con la creencia de que puede ser mejor que la azúcar refinada, e incluso se presume que pueden causar más daño. Teniendo en cuenta que entre la comunidad general se cree que pueda ser una alternativa «saludable» y se puede exceder en su consumo, es necesario que el profesional de la salud realice alfabetización, basado en la evidencia más reciente y de mayor calidad. Con base en lo anterior, el objetivo de esta revisión consiste en analizar la evidencia más reciente sobre el impacto de los edulcorantes sobre la salud cardiovascular. Posterior a la búsqueda bibliográfica en las bases de datos PubMed, ScienceDirect, Web of Science y MEDLINE se evidenció que existe una marcada tendencia, que se ha sostenido a lo largo de los últimos años, sobre un potencial riesgo de enfermedad cardiovascular, desenlaces cardiovasculares y mortalidad con el consumo de edulcorantes, tanto naturales como artificiales. Por lo tanto, no se sugiere su consumo como alternativa a la azúcar tradicional.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The consumption of refined sugar is believed to be one of the main causes of microvascular and endocrine complications that contribute to vascular damage. Alternatives such as artificial sweeteners have been proposed as a possible solution. However, the evidence has been controversial, with some believing it may be better than refined sugar while others suspect it could be equally or even more harmful. Given that in the general community, there is a belief that artificial sweeteners may be a &#8220;healthy&#8221; alternative and that their consumption can be excessive, it is essential for healthcare professionals to provide evidence-based literacy. Based on the above, the aim of this review is to analyze the most recent evidence regarding the impact of artificial sweeteners on cardiovascular health. Following a literature search in PubMed, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, and MEDLINE databases, a consistent trend has emerged over recent years, suggesting a potential risk of cardiovascular disease, cardiovascular outcomes, and mortality associated with the consumption of both natural and artificial sweeteners. Therefore, their consumption is not recommended as an alternative to traditional sugar.]]></p></abstract>
