Este estudio consiste en una revisión de literatura en la que se identificaron 52 factores del abandono universitario para el periodo 2004-2019. Los resultados muestran que los factores más influyentes sobre el abandono virtual son el rendimiento académico, la edad, el género, las circunstancias personales y las técnicas para el aprendizaje virtual y auto-dirigido. Por último, se discuten posibles estrategias de reducción del abandono universitario virtual y fomento de la permanencia en educación superior a partir de estos factores y se ofrecen recomendaciones para próximas investigaciones.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Dropping out in online higher education has multiples and interdependent causes. This paper is based on a literature review from 52 college dropout factors between 2004 to 2019. Results show that the most influential factors to online dropout relate to previous academic performance, age, gender, personal circumstances and online and self-directed learning skills. Finally, it is discussed some strategies to reduce online higher education dropping out from these factors and promote the persistence, and it is offered a few recommendations for future research.]]></p></abstract>
