La investigación se desarrolló a partir de un método de encuestas transversales, empleando un cuestionario construido especialmente para el estudio. Participaron 693 estudiantes. Se emplearon modelos de comparación de medias y correlaciones bivariadas para dar respuesta a los objetivos de investigación. Los resultados muestran una estrecha relación entre la cohesión social y la participación escolar de los estudiantes, siendo esto concordante con la literatura científica revisada. Por otra parte, se destaca el nivel socioeconómico como factor que explica las diferencias en la cohesión social y la participación escolar de los estudiantes, lo que se suma al respaldo empírico sobre los determinantes socioeconómicos del sistema escolar chileno.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The objective of this study was to establish the relationship between social cohesion and school participation of primary and secondary students coming from schools in different administrative areas of the San Pedro de la Paz district, in Chile. The research method consisted on cross-sectional surveys, using a questionnaire constructed especially for the study. 693 students participated. We used models of comparison of means and bivariate correlations to respond to the research objectives. The results show a close relationship between social cohesion and students' school participation, similar to the scientific literature reviewed. On the other hand, the socio-economic level is highlighted as a factor that explains the differences in social cohesion and students' school participation, which adds to the empirical support for the socioeconomic determinants of the Chilean school system.]]></p></abstract>
