Apoderados menos aventajados económicamente reportan pocas experiencias positivas y menos participación en las actividades de la escuela. Menos evidencia existe respecto a la relación entre docentes y familias con alto capital económico y cultural. El objetivo de este artículo es describir las disposiciones de los docentes de un establecimiento educacional privado chileno hacia la relación con familias de la élite. Se realizaron cuatro grupos de discusión con el total de docentes que trabajan con apoderados en primero y segundo ciclo de la educación básica. La disposición de los docentes es a construir relaciones instrumentales con las familias y excluirlos de los asuntos y decisiones relacionadas con el trabajo docente en aula. Se concluye que la existencia de menor distancia cultural entre familias y escuelas no garantiza más confianza, reciprocidad y apoyo mutuo entre docentes y apoderados.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Relationships between teachers and parents affect students' school performance. Less economically advantaged guardians report few positive experiences and less participation in school activities. There is less evidence with regard to relationships between teachers and families with high economic and cultural capital. The objective of this article is to describe teachers' attitudes in a private education establishment in Chile toward relationships with elite families. Four discussion groups were held with all of the teach ers working with guardians in the first and second cycles of basic education. Teachers' attitudes are oriented toward building instrumental relationships with families and excluding them from matters and decisions associated with the work of teaching in the classroom. It is concluded that less cultural distance between families and schools does not guarantee more trust, reci procity or mutual support between teachers and guardians.]]></p></abstract>
