La categoría de "países emergentes" incluye aquellos países sistémicamente importantes y con interés de participar activamente en arenas de política y economía globales. Estos países emergentes se agrupan, formal o informalmente, con los del Sur Global y con otros países desarrollados en "clubes" que aspiran a proveer las ventajas de gobernanza global (como en el G20). Dichas agrupaciones han revelado en años recientes las tensiones entre países emergentes y los demás, al tiempo que, como conjuntos proliferan, se reconfiguran y propician nuevos escenarios internacionales.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The countries of the Global South are not homogenous; the individual characteristics of each and their relationship with the rest of the world are increasingly varied. The category of "emerging countries" includes countries of systemic importance, and with an interest in actively participating on the stage of global politics and commerce. These emerging countries are grouped, formally or informally with those of the Global South and with other developed countries in "clubs" that aspire to provide the advantages of global governance (such as the G20). These groupings have revealed in recent years the tensions between emerging countries and the others, at the same time as such groups proliferate, reconfigure and promote new international scenarios.]]></p></abstract>

La classe des "pays émergents" comprend ceux qui ont de l'importance dans le système international et qui cherchent à participer de manière dynamique sur les scènes de la politique et de l'économie mondiales. Ces pays émergents se rassemblent, de façon formelle ou non, avec ceux du "Sud mondial" et avec des pays développés dans des "clubs" qui procurent les avantages de la gouvernance mondiale, tels que le G20. Au cours des dernières années, dans ces ensembles-là on a remarqué des tensions entre les pays émergents et les autres; en même temps, les groupes se développent et se transforment jusqu'au point de pouvoir innover sur la scène internationale.]]></p></abstract>
