El matorral desértico rosetófilo es un ecosistema con potencial para la reintroducción del borrego cimarrón (Ovis canadensis) en el noreste de México. El objetivo de este estudio fue estimar la composición, diversidad y producción de biomasa entre octubre de 2018 y agosto de 2019, en una reserva de manejo intensivo y en la Sierra Las Hormigas, dentro de la UMA Rancho San Juan, en Coahuila. La diversidad vegetal se calculó utilizando el método de Canfield e índices ecológicos, y la producción de biomasa se estimó con el método de Adelaide. La capacidad de carga se determinó con el modelo de Holechek. En la Reserva y en la Sierra Las Hormigas se identificaron 42 y 50 especies de plantas, respectivamente, predominando las especies arbustivas y arbóreas (62 % y 62 %, respectivamente). Las especies dominantes fueron Agave lechuguilla, Euphorbia antisyphilitica y Lippia graveolens. La biomasa total fue de 703.89 kg ha-1 en la Reserva y 1,066.05 kg ha-1 en Sierra Las Hormigas, siendo el verano la estación con mayor producción. La capacidad de carga en la Reserva fue de 4.67 ha por borrego (86 borregos en 400 ha), mientras que, en Sierra Las Hormigas fue de 3.08 ha por borrego (357 borregos en 1,100 ha). Estos resultados resaltan la relevancia del matorral para la reintroducción del borrego cimarrón y proporcionan parámetros útiles para evaluar la calidad del hábitat.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract. The rosetophyllous desert scrub is an ecosystem with potential for the reintroduction of the bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis) in northeastern Mexico. The objective of this study was to estimate the composition, diversity, and biomass production between October 2018 and August 2019, in an intensive management Reserve and in the Sierra Las Hormigas, within the UMA Rancho San Juan, in Coahuila. Plant diversity was calculated using the Canfield method and ecological indices, while biomass production was estimated using the Adelaide method. Carrying capacity was determined using the Holechek model. In the reserve and Sierra Las Hormigas, 42 and 50 plant species were identified, respectively, with shrub and tree species predominating. The dominant species were Agave lechuguilla, Euphorbia antisyphilitica, and Lippia graveolens.
