Este estudio analiza la distribución y diversidad de conchas de gasterópodos terrestres en tres tipos de relieve de Chichén Itzá: una planicie, una colina y una dolina, a través de la excavación de tres pozos estratigráficos. Se identificaron 1,429 especímenes pertenecientes a nueve especies, ocho géneros, seis familias y cuatro órdenes. Los resultados revelan que Neocyclotus dysoni es la especie más abundante, representando el 74.6 %, 38.5 % y 41.16 % en la planicie, la colina y la dolina, respectivamente. Otras especies destacadas incluyen Halotudora gaigei y Choanopomops largillierti. Asimismo, se detectó un número reducido de ejemplares de Averellia coactiliata, Bulimulus unicolor, Euglandina cylindracea, Euglandina sp., Helicina sp. y Streptostyla sp. La densidad de caracoles varió significativamente entre los pozos y horizontes. El horizonte superficial de la dolina presentó la mayor densidad, seguido por la colina y la planicie. En esta última, los horizontes profundos mostraron una baja densidad, reflejando condiciones menos favorables para la preservación de las conchas. La diversidad y equitatividad fueron más altas en la colina, donde las condiciones sombreadas y la alta materia orgánica favorecieron una distribución equilibrada de las especies. Además, se sugiere que factores edáficos y microambientales -humedad, sombra, materia orgánica y pH alcalino- influyen en la composición de las comunidades malacológicas. Los resultados proporcionan un punto de partida significativo para entender la relación entre las condiciones ambientales y la distribución de los gasterópodos en paisajes kársticos.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract. This study analyzes the distribution and diversity of terrestrial gastropods shells in three types of landforms at Chichén Itzá: a plain, a hill, and a doline, through the excavation of three stratigraphic pits. A total of 1,429 specimens were identified, belonging to nine species, eight genera, six families, and four orders. The results reveal that Neocyclotus dysoni is the most abundant species, accounting for 74.6%, 38.5%, and 41.16% in the plain, hill, and doline, respectively. Other notable species include Halotudora gaigei and Choanopomops largillierti. Likewise, a low number of specimens of Averellia coactiliata, Bulimulus unicolor, Euglandina cylindracea, Euglandina sp., Helicina sp., and Streptostyla sp. were recorded. Gastropod density varied significantly between the pits and horizons. The surface horizon of the doline showed the highest density, followed by the hill and the plain. In the plain, deeper horizons exhibited lower densities, reflecting less favorable conditions for shell preservation. Diversity and evenness were highest in the hill, where shaded conditions and high organic matter favored a balanced distribution of species. Moreover, it is suggested that edaphic and microenvironmental factors -humidity, shade, organic matter, and alkaline pH- influence the composition of malacological communities. The results provide a significant starting point for understanding the relationship between environmental conditions and gastropod distribution in karstic landscapes.]]></p></abstract>
