Es relevante determinar la función que cumplen estos hábitats respecto al establecimiento de comunidades ecológicas. El objetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar la estructura del corredor ripario y su relación con los patrones y ampliaciones de distribución de tres especies de aves en la cuenca San Pedro Mezquital, en Durango. Para ello se analizaron registros de ciencia ciudadana, literatura y de campo de tres especies de aves (Pachyramphus aglaiae, Melanotis caerulescens e Icterus wagleri), estableciendo la ampliación de distribución y su ocurrencia en los corredores. Igualmente se determinó la estructura del corredor, considerando la vegetación riparia y cauce del río, para lo cual se obtuvo la longitud, el área y ancho. Las especies analizadas presentan una ampliación de su área de distribución (47% de registros) asociada a patrones de desplazamientos basados en corredores riparios. El 62% de los registros de las tres especies se reportan en el corredor o cerca de este a un promedio de 3.65 km. La vegetación riparia presenta una longitud de 170 km, y un área de 9.94 km2 de la cual el municipio del Mezquital alberga el 44%. Las franjas de vegetación riparia presentan un ancho promedio de 48.45 m y los registros de las especies se concentran en un ancho de 11 a 40 m. Los bosques de galería de la región son importantes en la distribución de las especies y son cruciales para el mantenimiento de la biodiversidad. Sin embargo, han sido reducidos y enfrentan diversas amenazas, por lo que es indispensable establecer acciones de conservación efectivas para proteger estos ecosistemas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Riparian habitats have a relatively high biodiversity and are important corridors for the distribution of species. Therefore, it is important to determine the function of these habitats with regard to the establishment of ecological communities. The objective of this study was to evaluate the structure of riparian corridors and their relationship to the patterns and extent of bird species distribution in the San Pedro Mezquital watershed in Durango. Records of three bird species (Pachyramphus aglaiae, Melanotis caerulescens and Icterus wagleri) from citizen science, literature and the field to determine the extent of distribution and their occurrence within the corridor were analized. Also, the structure of the corridor, taking into account the riparian vegetation and the length, area and width of the riverbed were analyzed. The three species studied show an extension of their distribution (47% detections) associated with movement patterns based on river corridors. 62% of records of these species are reported in the corridor or at an average distance of 3.65 km from it. The riparian vegetation has a length of 170 km and an area of 9.94 km2, 44% of which is in the municipality of Mezquital. The strips of riparian vegetation have an average width of 48.45 m and the species records are concentrated between 11 and 40 m wide. The gallery forests of the region play a fundamental role in the distribution of species and are crucial for the conservation of biodiversity.
