Las medidas de aislamiento por la pandemia de COVID-19 pudieron cambiar la prevalencia de virus causantes de IRA.  Objetivo:  determinar el posible impacto de la pandemia por COVID-19 en la modificación de la prevalencia de los agentes virales de pacientes con IRA.  Material y métodos:  análisis de las atenciones a urgencias de pacientes pediátricos con sintomatología respiratoria alta o baja, en quienes se realizó detección de virus, durante el periodo de 2019 a 2022. El estudio se realizó en un hospital privado. Las tendencias se analizaron por medio de correlaciones ajustadas, ya sea lineal, cuadrática o cúbica.  Resultados:  durante el 2019, se atendieron 1,456 pacientes con ARI, para el 2020 bajó a 660, en el 2021 a 281 y en el 2022 subió a 872. La prevalencia de virus en los cuatro años mostró dos patrones de comportamiento: uno de tendencia cuadrática (virus sincicial respiratorio A, coronavirus 229E y NL63, parainfluenza 4 y enterovirus) y otra cúbica (virus sincicial respiratorio B, adenovirus, coronavirus OC43, parainfluenza 3 y rhinovirus).  Conclusiones:  la pandemia por COVID-19 repercutió en menor frecuencia de atenciones por IRA en urgencias, así como en el cambio de las prevalencias de los virus respiratorios.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract:  Introduction:  acute respiratory infections (ARI) are the main cause of care in emergency departments. Isolation measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic could have changed the prevalence of viruses that cause ARI.  Objective:  to determine the possible impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the prevalence of viral agents in patients with ARI.  Material and methods:  an analysis was carried out of the emergency visits of pediatric patients with upper or lower respiratory symptoms, in whom virus detection was performed, during the period from 2019 to 2022. The study was carried out in a private hospital. Trends were analyzed through adjusted correlations, whether linear, quadratic, or cubic.  Results:  during 2019, 1,456 patients with ARI were treated, by 2020 it dropped to 660, in 2021 to 281, and in 2022 it rose to 872. The prevalence of viruses in the four years showed two patterns of behavior: one with a quadratic trend (respiratory syncytial virus A, coronavirus 229E and NL63, parainfluenza 4 and enterovirus) and another cubic trend (respiratory syncytial virus B, adenovirus, coronavirus OC43, parainfluenza 3 and rhinovirus).  Conclusions:  the COVID-19 pandemic had an impact on a lower frequency of ARI care in the emergency room, as well as on the change in the prevalence of respiratory viruses.]]></p></abstract>
