Recent works have studied the basin to explain the geodynamic mechanisms of the crust and lithosphere and their relationship with the surrounding areas, estimating that the depth of the LAB (Lithosphere/Asthenosphere Boundary) is shallower than in stable areas of the continent. We propose to analyze the lithospheric structure beneath the Pantanal basin, from 0 to 150 km depth approximately, carrying out an inversion of phase velocity dispersion curves of surface waves, using seismic data from the permanent Brazilian Seismological Network (RSBR). The selected events are of shallow to medium depths, located in the Central Andean region. From these earthquake records, we obtained the dispersion curves for fundamental and first higher modes of Rayleigh waves and fundamental mode of Love waves, applying the Multiple Filter Technique (MFT), combining with a phase match filter to isolate them separately. Then, phase velocity curves, calculated by the two stations method, were inverted to determine vertical profiles for S waves velocities. Furthermore, a sensibility analysis was performed to study the contributions of every component of the surface waves group in the determination of the physical properties by depth. This analysis reveals that the first higher mode can highlight these properties up to the upper mantle. As a result, a representative seismic model of the region was achieved, showing a crust of ~34 km thick and a lithosphere of ~118 km thick. This result suggests a thinner crust and lithosphere than in the surrounding areas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen La cuenca Pantanal se encuentra en la parte alta del Río Paraguay (Estado de Mato Grosso do Sul, Brasil) y presenta un adelgazamiento cortical respecto de las zonas aledañas, lo que resulta particularmente interesante. Trabajos recientes han estudiado la cuenca con la finalidad de explicar los mecanismos geodinámicos de la corteza y la litósfera y su relación con las áreas circundantes, estimando que la profundidad de la LAB (Límite Litósfera/Astenosfera por sus siglas en inglés) es menor respecto a zonas estables del continente. En este trabajo proponemos un análisis de la estructura litosférica debajo de la cuenca Pantanal hasta los 150 km de profundidad, mediante inversión de curvas de velocidad de fase de ondas superficiales para modo fundamental y superior, utilizando datos sísmicos de la Red Sismológica Brasileña (RSBR). Los sismos seleccionados son de profundidades someras a intermedias, ubicados fundamentalmente en la Zona Andina Central. Aplicando la Técnica de Filtrado Múltiple combinando con un filtro de fase coincidente para aislar los distintos modos, obtuvimos curvas de dispersión de velocidad de grupo para los modos fundamental y superior de ondas Rayleigh y modo fundamental de ondas Love. Invertimos las curvas de velocidad de fase, determinadas aplicando el método de dos estaciones a partir de las curvas de velocidad de grupo, con el fin de producir un modelo unidimensional de velocidades de ondas S para la cuenca. Además, realizamos un análisis de sensibilidad con el objetivo de estudiar la contribución de cada componente armónico del paquete de ondas superficiales en la determinación de las propiedades físicas en profundidad, mostrando que el primer modo superior resultó sensible a las propiedades físicas del manto superior. El modelo sísmico determinado para la región presenta espesores aproximados de 34 km para la corteza y 118 km para la litósfera, sugiriendo un adelgazamiento de la corteza y la litósfera respecto a regiones circundantes a la cuenca.]]></p></abstract>
