Las diferencias en estatura, masa muscular y función renal afectan la priorización, particularmente con el uso del modelo para enfermedad hepática terminal (MELD, Model for End-Stage Liver Disease) clásico. Aunque la implementación del MELD 3.0 ha reducido algunas disparidades, persisten sesgos estructurales, en especial en la asignación de puntos de excepción y el uso de injertos grandes. Modelos como MELD-GRAIL-Na y GEMA-Na, junto con estrategias quirúrgicas como el uso del hígado dividido y la donación pediátrica, representan oportunidades para avanzar hacia una asignación con más equidad. El objetivo del presente artículo es revisar la evidencia más reciente y proponer medidas concretas para lograr una equidad de género en la asignación del trasplante hepático.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Access to liver transplantation among women remains limited due to biological and sociocultural factors. Differences in height, muscle mass, and renal function estimation significantly affect prioritization, particularly under the classic Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD). Although the implementation of MELD 3.0 has reduced some disparities, structural biases persist, especially regarding exception points and graft size compatibility. Newer models such as MELD-GRAIL-Na and GEMA-Na, along with surgical strategies like split-liver and pediatric donation, offer promising alternatives. The objective of the present review is to summarize recent evidence and propose targeted measures to achieve greater gender equity in liver transplantation allocation.]]></p></abstract>
