Los estudios que han evaluado la utilidad de marcadores no invasivos para predecir la sobrevida en los pacientes con PBE son heterogéneos.  Objetivo: Evaluar la utilidad del índice neutrófilo-linfocito (INL), la puntuación MELD-Na y el lactato sérico como marcadores no invasivos para predecir la sobrevida a 28 días en los pacientes con PBE.  Material y métodos: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y retrospectivo. Se determinaron los puntos de corte óptimos de la puntuación MELD-Na, el lactato sérico y el INL para predecir la mortalidad a 28 días y la sobrevida a 28 días mediante la prueba de la curva ROC. También se asociaron estos marcadores al hallazgo de lesión renal aguda.  Resultados: Se incluyeron 74 pacientes con PBE (primer episodio). La mediana de edad fue de 55 años. Para predecir la mortalidad, el valor óptimo de INL fue &#8805; 9.68, el de MELD-Na fue &#8805; 27.5 y el de lactato sérico fue &#8805; 3.35. Para predecir lesión renal aguda, el valor óptimo de INL fue &#8805; 9.2 y el de MELD-Na fue &#8805; 25.  Conclusiones: La puntuación MELD-Na, el INL y el lactato sérico son marcadores séricos de fácil acceso y pueden apoyar en la predicción de la sobrevida a corto plazo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Background: Patients with liver cirrhosis are prone to bacterial infections, particularly spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP). Previous studies evaluating the usefulness of non-invasive markers in predicting survival in SBP patients have yielded heterogeneous results.  Objective: To assess the utility of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), MELD-Na score, and serum lactate as non-invasive markers for predicting 28-day survival in patients with SBP.  Materials and methods: This study employed a descriptive and retrospective design. The optimal cut-off values for MELD-Na, serum lactate, and NLR to predict 28-day mortality and survival were determined using ROC curves. We analyzed the relation of these markers to the presence of acute kidney injury.  Results: We included 74 patients with a first episode of SBP. The median age was 55 years. The optimal NLR cut-off to predict mortality was &#8805; 9.68, MELD-Na &#8805; 27.5, and serum lactate &#8805; 3.35. For predicting acute kidney injury, the optimal values were NLR &#8805; 9.2 and MELD-Na &#8805; 25.  Conclusions: MELD-Na, NLR, and serum lactate are easily accessible serum markers that may support the prediction of short-term survival.]]></p></abstract>
