Objetivo: Determinar el efecto de la musicoterapia y la estimulación cognitiva en adultos mayores con DCL.  Material y métodos: Estudio mixto, etnográfico y fenomenológico, 80 pacientes mayores, ambos sexos, con DCL. Asignándose aleatoriamente en dos grupos: el primero recibió musicoterapia, mientras que el control recibió estimulación cognitiva, sesiones mensuales durante seis meses. Se evaluó el estado cognitivo antes y después de la intervención con el cuestionario de Evaluación cognitiva de Montreal (MoCA). Asimismo, se realizaron comparaciones mediante McNemar y c2. Valor de p menores de 0.05 se consideraron significativos.  Resultados: La prueba de McNemar arrojó una diferencia estadísticamente significativa entre el estado cognitivo de los pacientes basal y postintervención (p &lt; 0.001); además se observó una mejoría en el grupo de estudio con musicoterapia y en el grupo con estimulación cognitiva, sin diferencias significativas entre ambos (p = 0.805).  Conclusiones: Los resultados mostraron que la musicoterapia favoreció el estado cognitivo de los pacientes, demostrando ser consistentemente adecuada para mantener o mejorar el estado cognitivo de los adultos mayores con DCL.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Background: Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a state between normal aging and early dementia, where various non-pharmacologicalinterventions have shown positive effects.  Objective: To determine the effect of music therapy against cognitive stimulation in older adults with MCI.  Material and methods: A mixed, ethnographic and phenomenological study, 80 older patients, both sexes, with MCI. Randomly assigned into two groups: the first received music therapy, while the control received cognitive stimulation, monthly sessions for six months. Cognitive status was evaluated before and after the MontrealCognitive Assessment (MoCA) intervention. Likewise, comparisons were made using McNemar and c2. P values less than 0.05 were considered significant.  Results: McNemar test yielded a statistically significant difference between the cognitive status of the patients at baseline and post-intervention (p &lt; 0.001); similarly, an improvement was observed in the study group with music therapy and in the group with cognitive stimulation, without significant differences between the two groups (p = 0.805).  Conclusions: The results showed that music therapy favored the cognitive status of the patients, proving to be consistently adequate to maintain or improve the cognitive status of older adults with MCI.]]></p></abstract>
