Metodología: se empleó un enfoque mixto que combinó el análisis de fuentes secundarias, incluyendo datos de Conapesca, Sagarpa e INEGI, con entrevistas semiestructuradas a productores, académicos y funcionarios gubernamentales. Para el análisis de los datos cualitativos se utilizó el software ATLAS.ti, aplicando análisis de contenido y codificación cualitativa para identificar patrones clave. Resultados: revelan que las principales barreras para el desarrollo de la acuacultura en la región incluyen el acceso limitado a financiamiento, deficiencias en infraestructura y una regulación ineficiente. No obstante, se identificaron ventajas como las condiciones ambientales favorables y la creciente demanda de productos acuícolas sustentables. Limitaciones: el estudio se centra únicamente en Baja California Sur, lo que podría restringir la generalización de los hallazgos a otras regiones. Conclusiones: para consolidar el sector acuícola en la región es necesario mejorar el acceso a financiamiento, fortalecer la infraestructura y optimizar la regulación. Asimismo, se recomienda la implementación de políticas públicas que fomenten la diversificación de especies y la capacitación técnica, con el fin de impulsar un desarrollo acuícola sostenible.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Objective: Analyze the historical evolution, current status, and development potential of aquaculture in Baja California Sur, identifying key challenges and opportunities for its growth. Methodology: A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining secondary data analysis from CONAPESCA, SAGARPA, and INEGI with semi-structured interviews with producers, academics, and government officials. The qualitative data were analyzed using ATLAS.ti software, applying content analysis and qualitative coding to identify key patterns. Results: indicate that the main barriers to aquaculture development in the region include limited access to financing, deficient infrastructure, and inefficient regulation. However, advantages such as favorable environmental conditions and the increasing demand for sustainable aquaculture products were also identified. Limitations: This study focuses exclusively on Baja California Sur, which may restrict the generalization of findings to other regions. Conclusions: strengthening the aquaculture sector in the region requires improving access to financing, enhancing infrastructure, and optimizing regulatory frameworks. Furthermore, the implementation of public policies that promote species diversification and technical training is recommended to foster sustainable aquaculture development.]]></p></abstract>
