A pesar de su importancia, este sistema agrícola enfrenta retos económicos para permanecer, poniendo en riesgo la biodiversidad asociada. El objetivo de este trabajo fue caracterizar la riqueza de aves y las interacciones tróficas ave-planta en el agroecosistema cacao en Tabasco, mediante revisión de literatura y la obtención de datos en campo. Durante el periodo de abril del 2023 a abril del 2024, se realizaron 29 recorridos diurnos (9:00 h - 12:00 h) y 12 nocturnos (22:00 h - 13:00 h), sumando un total de 123 horas de observaciones en 17 plantaciones. Para identificar las aves y las plantas, se utilizaron prismáticos, cámaras digitales y guías de campo. Con esta información se generó un inventario actualizado de 165 especies de aves, pertenecientes a 40 familias y 19 órdenes. Asimismo, se registraron 70 interacciones tróficas entre 31 especies de aves y 22 especies de plantas, de las cuales 21 fueron nuevos registros en la dieta de aves residentes y migratorias de la región. Las especies que más recursos vegetales consumieron fueron: Melanerpes aurifrons, Eupsittula nana y Dives dives (5 especies cada una). Las plantas más consumidas por las aves fueron Ficus sp. (15 especies) y Erythrina fusca (12 especies). Los resultados obtenidos se pueden utilizar para atraer especies polinizadoras, dispersoras de semillas o de interés turístico en el agroecosistema.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The cacao agroecosystem in Tabasco, Mexico, has increased its ecological importance in recent decades, providing habitats and microhabitats for diverse flora and fauna in highly fragmented landscapes. Despite its importance, this agricultural system faces economic challenges to survive, putting its biodiversity at risk. The objective of this study was to characterize bird richness and trophic interactions: bird-plant in the cacao agroecosystem in Tabasco, through a literature review and field data collection. From April 2023 to April 2024, 29 daytime surveys (9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) and 12 nighttime surveys (10:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.) were carried out, totaling 123 hours of observations in 17 plantations. Binoculars, digital cameras, and field guides were used to identify birds and plants. With this information, an updated inventory of 165 bird species belonging to 40 families and 19 orders was generated. In addition, 70 trophic interactions were recorded between 31 bird species and 22 plant species, of which 21 were new records in the diet of resident and migratory birds in the region. The bird species that consumed the most plant resources were: Melanerpes aurifrons, Eupsittula nana and Dives dives (5 species each). The plants most consumed by birds were Ficus sp.
