Diseño metodológico:  Se sigue el método propio de la filosofía, es decir, el análisis conceptual y la consistencia lógica de los argumentos.  Resultados:  El programa denominado evolución cultural, en la versión que revisamos, es un programa de evolución cultural popular porque comparte las mismas críticas hechas a la psicología evolucionista popular. Limitaciones de la investigación: futuros trabajos deben evaluar si realmente las críticas a la psicología evolucionista son correctas, y si dichas críticas afectarían del mismo modo tanto a la psicología evolucionista popular como al programa de evolución cultural popular. Hallazgos:  La psicología evolucionista popular y el programa de evolución cultural popular comparten las siguientes afirmaciones centrales: a) los mecanismos cognitivos, y distintivamente humanos, que permiten la propagación y estabilidad de la cultura son fijados y heredados genéticamente; b) las circunstancias en las que nuestra especie evolucionó nos proveen varias ideas heurísticas para formular hipótesis acerca de cómo funcionan nuestras mentes y cuerpos en la actualidad; y c) los componentes básicos de la mente son antiguos en términos evolutivos.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Purpose:  To review whether the criticisms commonly made of evolutionary psychology, the four fallacies of pop evolutionary psychology, can be applied to the program of cultural evolution.  Methodological design:  Philosophy&#8217;s own method of conceptual analysis and logical consistency of arguments is followed.  Results:  The program called cultural evolution, in the version we reviewed, is a program of pop cultural evolution because it shares the same criticisms made to pop evolutionary psychology.  Research limitations:  Future work should assess whether the criticisms of evolutionary psychology are really correct, and whether these criticisms would affect both pop evolutionary psychology as well as the pop cultural evolution program in the same way.  Findings:  Both pop evolutionary psychology and pop cultural evolution share the following central claims: a) the cognitive, and distinctively human mechanisms that enable the propagation and stability of culture are genetically fixed and inherited; b) the circumstances under which our species evolved provide us with various heuristic ideas for hypothesizing how our minds and bodies function today; and c) the basic components of the mind are evolutionarily ancient.]]></p></abstract>
