Las diferencias en los factores ambientales que determinan la distribución de las especies, constituyen una evidencia que detecta diferencias entre taxones, útiles para su correcta circunscripción.  Hipótesis: Debido a la similitud morfológica entre las tres especies de Linum, se espera que sus nichos ecológicos sean similares, pero no equivalentes debido a las adaptaciones a distintos ambientes.  Especies de estudio: Linum guatemalense, Linum mexicanum, Linum orizabae.  Sitio: México y Centroamérica.  Métodos: Utilizando los registros de presencia de las especies de Linum, se modeló su distribución y se calculó el grado de traslape, similitud y equivalencia de sus nichos ecológicos.  Resultados: La distribución de las especies está influenciada principalmente por variables de temperatura y precipitación, relacionadas con la elevación. Las especies mexicanas comparten el espacio geográfico y ambiental, mostrando similitud, traslape y equivalencia significativa de sus nichos. Linum guatemalense, mostró una distribución parapátrica respecto a las especies mexicanas, compartiendo parte de su distribución con L. mexicanum. Esta especie mostró similitud, pero no equivalencia de nicho ecológico respecto a las otras especies de linos evaluadas, con las cuales tuvo bajo traslape.  Conclusiones: Los resultados respaldan el estatus de especie de L. guatemalense, mientras que la evidencia sugiere que L. mexicanum y L. orizabae pueden tratarse del mismo taxón. Otras líneas de evidencia como la molecular, deben ser integradas, de manera que contribuyan con mayor información para la correcta circunscripción, especialmente de las especies mexicanas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Background: Three species in the Linum schiedeanum complex are particularly notable for their close morphological similarities, which complicates taxonomic identification. However, variations in the environmental factors that influence species distribution have provided evidence to distinguish between taxa, aiding in their accurate classification.  Hypotheses: Due to the morphological similarity between the three Linum species, their ecological niches are expected to be similar, but not equivalent, due to adaptations to different environments.  Studied species: Linum guatemalense, Linum mexicanum, Linum orizabae.  Study site: Mexico and Central America.  Methods: Occurrences records of the three Linum species were used to model their distribution and calculate the overlap, similarity, and equivalence of their ecological niches.  Results:  Species distribution is primarily influenced by temperature and precipitation variables related to elevation. Mexican species share geographic and environmental space, showing significant similarity, overlap, and equivalence in their niches. Linum guatemalense displayed a parapatric distribution concerning the Mexican species, sharing part of its distribution with L. mexicanum. This species showed similarity, but not ecological niche equivalence, with the other flax species evaluated, with which it had low overlap.  Conclusions: The results support the species status of L. guatemalense. However, the evidence indicates that L. mexicanum and L. orizabae might belong to the same taxon. To ensure accurate classification, particularly of the Mexican species, it is important to incorporate other lines of evidence, such as molecular data.]]></p></abstract>
