Objetivo:  Caracterizar a los pacientes con CVNMI tratados con 40 mg del bacilo, la seguridad y el patrón de recidiva/progresión.  Metodología:  Se realizó un estudio descriptivo de 77 pacientes del Hospital Hermanos Ameijeiras, tratados entre 2012 y 2016. Se utilizó regresión logística de Cox y curvas de supervivencia de Kaplan-Meier, con nivel de significación de 0,05 (intervalo de confianza 95 %).  Resultados y valor:  La media de edad fue de 70.2 años, el 80.5 % masculinos y el 85.7 % fumadores. Predominaron las lesiones de alto grado, en cara lateral, y menores de 3 cm (70%). Se evidenció tasa de recidiva en el 50.6 % de los pacientes y progresión en el 39,1 %. La supervivencia libre de progresión fue de 4.7 años, significativa en aquellos con lesiones múltiples, de alto grado y T1 (p&lt;0.05). Los principales eventos adversos fueron cistitis y fiebre con grado 1-2.  Conclusiones:  Predominaron los pacientes masculinos y fumadores, los tumores de menor tamaño y de alto grado. Fue significativa la relación de la progresión con la edad avanzada, el sexo femenino y la presencia de alto grado. La administración de BCG a 40 mg y hasta 18 dosis fue segura y con beneficio en la supervivencia global, pero no en la supervivencia libre de recaída/progresión, en relación con la presencia de T1, lesiones múltiples, y de alto grado.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Introduction:  In non-muscle-invasive high-grade carcinoma of the bladder, after resection, intravesical treatment with bacillus Calmette-Guérin is recommended.  Objective:  To characterize the patients with CVNMI treated with 40 mg of the bacillus, safety and recurrence/progression rate pattern.  Methodology:  A descriptive study of 77 patients from the Hospital Hermanos Ameijeiras, treated from 2012 to 2016. Cox logistic regression and Kaplan-Meier survival curves were used, with 0,05 significance level (95% confidence interval).  Results and value:  The mean age was 70.2 years, 80.5% male and 85.7% smokers. High-grade lesions, bladder lateral site, and smaller than 3 cm predominated (70%). Rate to recurrence/progression of patients was 50,6/39,1 %. Progression-free survival was 4,7 years, significant in those with multiple, high-grade, and T1 lesions (p &lt; 0.05). The main adverse events were cystitis and grade 1-2 fever.  Conclusions:  male patients and smokers predominated, as well as smaller and high-grade tumors. The relationship of progression with the presence of high grade, female sex and old age was significant. BCG administration at 40 mg, up to 18 doses was safe and beneficial in overall survival, but not in relapse/progression-free survival, in relation to the presence of T1, multiple, and high-grade lesions.]]></p></abstract>
