Se seleccionó una muestra de 3 000 viviendas, mediante un muestreo probabilístico, polietápico aleatorio estratificado. Entre los principales resultados de la encuesta se encuentran los siguientes: 96% de las viviendas cuenta con agua entubada y 82% la recibe todos los días, pero existe una elevada percepción de que el agua escasea. Aunque los entrevistados consideran que el agua es el segundo servicio público más importante y es por el que pagan menos, no lo perciben como el más barato y están renuentes a un incremento de tarifa. Existe una desigualdad en la percepción de la calidad del servicio entre estratos socioeconómicos y entre delegaciones. Finalmente, la percepción de dicha calidad abarca todos los aspectos del servicio, desde las condiciones del abastecimiento hasta la atención en oficinas del organismo operador.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: This study investigated perceived quality of the water supply system in Mexico City as well as customers' willingness to pay more for the service. For this purpose a survey was conducted throughout the 16 delegations of Mexico City. A sample of3 000 household was selected, through a stratified probabilistic polietapic design. The following are some of the main results: Although 96% of households have access to running water, and 82% is supplied with it daily, most interviewees believe that water is scarce. Even when they believe that piped water is one of the most important public services, and it is the service for which they pay the least, participants do not consider it to be the cheapest and they are adamant to pay a higher fee. Inequalities in service quality exist between socioeconomic sectors and between delegations. Finally, perceived quality covers different areas of the water supply system: supply condition, water quality, customer service, and leak repair.]]></p></abstract>
