A total of 40 male rabbits (New Zealand × Californian) weaned at 35 d were randomly selected for a control diet (CD) and CD + 1.5% of A. fourcroydes powder, with 10 replicates and two rabbits per replicate. After 60 d, A. fourcroydes powder increased body weight, feed intake, and weight gain (P&lt;0.05), without affecting feed conversion ratio and viability (P&gt;0.05). Furthermore, this natural product did not affect the edible portions and the indicators determined in the Longissimus dorsi, nor the organ relative weights and the intestinal morphometry (P&gt;0.05); however, a decrease in cecal pH was observed and consequently an increase in cecal beneficial bacteria (P&lt;0.05) were found. Also, A. fourcroydes powder reduced (P&lt;0.05) the serum concentration of glucose, harmful lipids, HDL and atherogenic index although without change for the ureic nitrogen, creatinine and VLDL (P&gt;0.05). Agave fourcroydes powder as a zootechnical additive promoted better growth, in addition, it showed lipid-lowering and hypoglycemic effects, without modifying the edible portions and organs digestive.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el efecto de la suplementación dietética con polvo de Agave fourcroydes en el desempeño del crecimiento, las características de la canal, el peso de los órganos, la morfometría intestinal y la bioquímica sanguínea en conejos de engorda. Un total de 40 conejos machos (Nueza Zelanda × californianos) destetados a los 35 días fueron seleccionados aleatoriamente para una dieta de control (DC) y DC + 1.5 % de polvo de A. fourcroydes, con 10 réplicas y dos conejos por réplica. Después de 60 días, el polvo de A. fourcroydes aumentó el peso corporal, la ingesta de alimento y la ganancia de peso (P&lt;0.05), sin afectar la relación de conversión alimenticia y la viabilidad (P&gt;0.05). Además, este producto natural no afectó las porciones comestibles y los indicadores determinados en el Longissimus dorsi, ni los pesos relativos de los órganos y la morfometría intestinal (P&gt;0.05); sin embargo, se observó una disminución del pH cecal y, en consecuencia, se encontró un aumento de las bacterias beneficiosas cecales (P &lt;0.05). Asimismo, el polvo de A. fourcroydes redujo (P&lt;0.05) la concentración sérica de glucosa, lípidos dañinos, LAD e índice aterogénico, aunque sin cambios para el nitrógeno ureico, creatinina y LMBD (P&gt;0.05). El polvo de Agave fourcroydes como aditivo zootécnico promovió un mejor crecimiento, además, mostró efectos hipolipemiantes e hipoglucémicos, sin modificar las porciones comestibles y los órganos digestivos.]]></p></abstract>
