La biometría hemática proporciona mediciones cuantitativas de las células sanguíneas, lo que permite detectar valores aumentados o disminuidos en comparación con las medias poblacionales. Hallazgos anormales pueden indicar la sospecha de cáncer infantil y orientar la subsecuente referencia a oncohematología pediátrica. Los índices eritrocitarios en la biometría hemática ayudan a enfocar el abordaje inicial hacia la etiología de las anemias. El frotis de sangre periférica evalúa la morfología de las células sanguíneas, facilitando la correlación de morfologías anormales con enfermedades asociadas, como talasemias, malaria o enfermedades autoinmunes.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: Complete blood counts (CBC) and peripheral blood smears are key tools for approaching and evaluating hematologic diseases of childhood. The CBC provides quantitative measurements of blood cell types, enabling the detection of elevated or decreased values compared to population means. In some cases, these findings lead to initial suspicion of childhood cancer and subsequent referral to pediatric hematology/oncology. Assessment of CBC erythrocytic indices can guide initial approaches to the etiology of anemia. Analysis of the peripheral blood smear facilitates the correlation of abnormal morphologies with associated diseases, such as thalassemia, malaria, or autoimmune diseases.]]></p></abstract>
