El objetivo de este trabajo es mostrar la distribución actual de CVUT en el municipio de Zapotitlán, Puebla, con un mapa en escala 1:50,000. Se realizó una clasificación de una imagen de satélite Landsat-8 OLI, utilizando el método de bosques aleatorios, datos de verificación de campo y datos auxiliares (variables topográficas y climáticas). Se obtuvo un valor de exactitud total de la clasificación de 68% y un coeficiente de Kappa de 0.63. El 79.7% de la zona presenta cobertura vegetal natural, siendo la tetechera de Cephalocereus tetetzo la clase dominante (21.2%). En 8.9% del territorio se realizan actividades agrícolas y el 10.1% está desprovista de cobertura vegetal. La zona de estudio presenta un nivel bajo de transformación territorial, sin embargo, elaborar la cartografía de la distribución de la CVUT en la escala geográfica señalada, permitirá analizar los procesos de modificación o conversión, valorar el impacto de las acciones de conservación y orientar acciones de manejo sustentable de las coberturas vegetales reconocidas en el área.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The identification of Land Use and Vegetation Cover (LUVC) distribution is relevant for sustainable land management and planification of any territory. The aim of this study is to present the current spatial distribution of LUVC of the Municipality of Zapotitlán, Puebla, with a map on a scale of 1:50,000. We classified a Landsat-8 OLI satellite image using the random forest method, field verification data, and complemented the analysis with topographic and climatic variables. We obtained an overall accuracy of 68% and a Kappa coefficient of 0.63. We found that 79.7% of the area still holds natural vegetation cover, being the tetecho, Cephalocereus tetetzo, forest (&#8220;tetechera&#8221;) the dominant class (21.2%). In 8.9% of the territory, people carry out agricultural activities and 10.1% correspond to bare soil. Much of the area still holds natural vegetation, however, the cartography of LUVC distribution in that geographical scale, will allow to analyze the modification or conversion processes, assess the impact of conservation actions, and guide actions for the sustainable management of natural vegetation cover.]]></p></abstract>
